Why Glass?

I just found this section. I've never owned a glass pipe. I always thought they were for crack smokers. Why should I own one? Are they better than metal ones that all the shops sell? How do you clean glass pipes?

Well, no one can say I'm not curious. I searched "glass pipe advantages". One thing I learned, if you're homeless, glass is not the way to go- too fragile. Also, if you're driving and smoking it is more difficult with a glass pipe. Neither pertained to me. But I like the idea of Made in America, I try to support artists, and I've read theories linking metals to CNS disease. I went to the neighborhood smoking supplies store and purchased a glass pipe (pipa as they say in Spanish). The one advantaged I found right away is, that I can see what I smoke. Many times I hold a lighter up to an empty bowl and get a lung full of BIC, but with a glass I can see what is going into my lungs.

Hand blown glass is surprisingly durable in small sizes. A small travel pipe of a nice thickness can literally be thrown as hard as you can throw against a wall without breaking... wouldn't do the same on concrete but a lot of them would survive a casual drop to pavement.

Obviously they CAN break, but it's not like the cheap machine glass you see on cheap freebase pipes... good hand blown pieces are incomparably stronger...

Just wanted to comment on that... I think if I was homeless I would be all for carrying glass :D

BTW congrats on your purchase, take a pic and share!

taste is as pure as it can get when using a pipe and a lighter, no off, odd, metal tasting.

glass dosnt degrade and is a pure material, even with metals, you can have toxins in them that are released when heated causing certain types of illnesses/diseases. not all metal pipes are made from the correct material, with the correct amount of alloys percentages making them non toxic or even aiding in bad taste.

i havnt smoked out of a metal peice in close to 10 years, with the only exception being a ti nail.

glass is a hand created peice by an artist. metal pipes are spun by the thousands on cnc machines all day in factorys in china, mexico, ect.

support a local artist or an online community artist. each peice is hand crafted and created with love and a passion for the art.

not to mention they look cool, are a great conversation starter or focus point. and each one is unique in its own way. with a metal peice your 1 of 10000 that has the same peice. with a handblown glass pipe, everyone is unique and slightly differnt from the next one. or with something custom, its a all around 1 of a kind peice.
