why nutes?

Hello RIU! I'm a new grower and as I look around, I often see others claim that potency and yield are pretty much predetermined by strain and genetics. If that's true why spend all the extra cash on nutes for little to no gain in yield and potency?

The nutes are the food and lifeblood of the plant. Not all areas produce all elements needed for a successful grow so we add nutes. It's like having 2 Olympic gold medalists breed. They'll have a kid with better athletic abilities than most but if that kid isn't fed properly then they'll never grow to their full potential.

Thanks Joe! And that makes sense. Is it possible for notes to alter taste and/or smell.

YES nutes can alter taste and smell, hence why some grow organically, although the smell i wouldnt say is as noticeable as the taste of chemmy buds. But I distinctly remember a few times smelling an O i got and it just smelled chemmy. Not a good smell.

Back to the olympic athlete anology to answer your question... If you fed your kid mcdonalds quality food everyday, and say you had another identical twin kid and the difference is that you fed him a strictly organic diet of well balanced fruits, veggies, meats, etc. Now lastly, lets say you were some how able to feed each kid the same amounts of protein, carbs, fats, etc. Which kid do you think would grow up healthier, stronger, faster, and live longer? Most likely it would be kid number 2, the one being fed the better quality diet. Hope this helps.

Same to joe blow greenthumb<< your answer didnt anser his question of "why spend more money?"

LMFAO, dude all nutrients are the same in horticulture, there is no difference between a bottle of $500 organic nutrients and a bag of MG with the exception of maybe micro-nutrients and cal, mag, and sulphur which arent in every organic fertilizer either!!!!!! N is always gonna be the N no matter what brand, are you telling me they have figured out a way to alter Nitrogen making it better? Absolutely not!! The problem with your analogy is one kid is being deprived of nutrients, N-P-K, by eating the McD's that is absolutely 100% bogus when it comes to plants, they synthesize sugars and use all chemical compounds the same way no matter organically or chemically made. If you don't know what you are posting is true and accurate, do a little research and find out for yourself before you perpetuate the same BS you've heard and get new growers to start thinking the same way as 90% of idiots who post on here, please? Thanks!!

growing organic is breeding microbes and fungi which break down nutrients to a usable form for the roots to uptake
synthetic nutes use a chelating agent to break them down into, guess what? the same exact form that organic did.

to the OP:

There are some stupid answers being thrown around here. The majority of nutrients on the market are nothing more than salts, sugars, wormcastings, and kelp, all mixed in different ratios and put in a fancy bottle.

Keep that in mind. Phosphorus is phosphorus. Despite what one companys marketing department might tell you, it's no different than any other companys phosphorus.

You're absolutely right when you say most of the final product is predetermined in the plants genetics. Your role as a grower is simply to give the plant what it needs without fucking things up.

You could grow one plant with miracle grow, one plant with the full house and garden lineup (notice everything in this line smells like molasses???), and one with the full AN lineup.
You probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference in the final products

edit: Just a heads up, weed forums are the worst places to go for information regarding plant nutrition. Why? A lot of people here are potheads (no offense) who have never taken a horticulture class and get all of their information from eachother or from nutrient company marketing rhetoric. Nutrient companies will prey on your ignorance. example: Bud blood costs like $250 a pound. All it is is monopotassium phosphate and "kelp extract" (this is a backdoor way of saying paclo, a compound deemed illegal for food crops). If you want decent info, log onto google scholar and search for plant nutrition.

Just like an internet asshole to comment on something he didn't read or understand...... I gave a clear, easily understood, answer. You give nutes because not all area(regions) have what your plant needs. Please read my post and try comprehending before bashing.
