actually, I've gotten very little response/comment on the whole thing. one person made two comments on YouTube.com. and only a few ppl from RIU.
maybe it's an old idea...or there is the exact same thing being sold commertially, idk.
perhaps, it's just complete shite, and I should just go kill myse....argggghhahgghh...:o

Moving the lights is certainly not a new idea, but you've developed a novel way of doing it, at no cost to you!
If you hung it from some kind of bearing, rather than letting the supporting cables cross, then I'm sure it would spin as well as your lightweight flouro prototype, if not better b/c of the added weight and hence momentum. You'd just need to make sure it didn't keep going round and round and twist the power cable up.

...you can buy a little box that you will wire your lights to. this thing will allow the contraption to spin an infinite amount of times without twisting the wires. i forget what they are called.

mount 2 small fans on each end of the light board so they work together to spin the lights...

so, that guy suggested the 360, wire free, junction($). it would eliminate electrical wire twisting. also winches to adjust the height and provide support in the form of tension. mini, non-oscillating fans (PC fans, perhaps) would power it, just like an aeroplane(airplane) and, as he stated, if the fans were connected to a single speed dial, the speed of rotation could be controlled. it's a great concept, I hope he realizes (makes) it.

and a great schematic too!(I'm working on mine)

as to the 'twist' in my suspension lines, that stored energy (there is a secret, omitted here)(I'm sure some can/could figure it out, but I'm not telling att), becomes stronger from the time the fan starts blowing on it and until that energy is exhausted, (previous limit was @180 degrees) then the 'twist' becomes the superior force, tension, redirecting the device in the opposite direction. just about out of energy, it (the device, it's 'vane' actually) reaches the fan...and gets blown (friction), now, up to 210 degrees! I can easily get 180 degrees with the fan on 'med', which is 50% power, 'low' is only 25% power. that is inadequate to achieve 180 degrees...ATT, lol.

I would love to start from scratch again and try some of these other ideas, but a bearing, suggested by fartexpress and yourself, fits into my design parameter. I'd only need to figure out how to attach it...and obtain one of those 360 junctions...maybe gutting a ceiling fan?? eh??
aw shit...gonna have to design a totally different model now...I'm only one person.

I know...you both can make your versions, we can still bounce ideas off one another, untill we come up with the best, indoor, wind powered, light mover!!! then we become RICH!! :bigjoint:

So I really want to try this with my led grow but how do u stop it from twisting up the cords if u got it to go round and round. Plus if I didnt want it to go around then how do you get it to stop and return back. Led lights are a lot lighter than hps so idk

making some progress...very consistent now. made some modifications and adjustments. it works, and it was practically free. I only used stuff lying around the house. I'm sure those retail light movers cost well over $200.00!

A 4 ft hydrofarm light mover can be bought all day for $89 to $69,i paid $25 each on ebay for mine.

Im not knocking what your doing but for my rooms its a no go,mainly due to the random twisting & spinning,nothing should ever be random & twisting light cords cant be a good thing.

There are much safer ways to accomplish light movement,take 2 peices of pvc pipe & connect them loosely with a nut & bolt making a pivot joint,then connect one end to an oscalating fan & the other to the light hood,all movement would be constant & controled.

Or watch ebay & pick up other guys leftovers .

well, that part of construction/utilization was a secret. this will be the first time I publish it.
the trick is, the winding of the suspension cables is what creates the opposite force to rotate the device in the opposite direction. once installed, I give it a few winds, in the direction you wish it to rotate, before starting the fan. when the fan begins it will add more tension to cables/twine...and when the 'wind' power is expended, the device will return to catch the 'wind' again...
you need two opposing forces to create perpetual motion...without some type of fuel. (I use the term Perpetual Motion loosely)
Aerolights is completely automated now. when the lights come on by timer, the fan does too...and the rotation continues, fluidly and consistently, until the timer shuts it all off...then begins again the next light cycle.

Here's the last video I posted. haven't posted any for a long time cuz it's been 'perfected' for quite awhile now.

well...first I must point out you've replied to a post over 2yrs old...things get cheaper over time. when I posted this, when I began construction, there were no 'left-overs'. I believe all available commercial products ranged from @ $200-$600!
I have seen the light movers connected to fans...while they do operate, the movement is quite limited. if you'll watch the final video on youtube, or see it on one of my previous posts, you can see I get a far wider range of movement. enough movement to grow far more plants than just a few degrees of movement would allow.

Great idea man. My 400w has an open hood which catches the wind from the fan and swings it back and forth eliminating the need for a light rack haha

that's kewl. in truth, the light only needs to move a few degrees to prevent/reduce 'burning'. the amount of movement needed primarily depends on the size of your grow and the size/power of your lights.

sweet! that's good thinking. a major problem for me is there is no HD or lowes here, and if there were all labels would be Japanese, which I can't read well, when at all, lol.
I do know about those swiveling circuit boxes, so wires don't twist, but wouldn't know where to begin to search for one, here.
it's all a great idea, thanks for being helpful. the diagram was nice too, lol.
what I'd really like to see, is for to you make you're version, then we can compare notes. I'm sure we could learn stuff from the other, and build cheap light movers.

Your light mover quicks some serious ass. I love the fact you used "garbage" to build it and its adorable simplicity! It has a distinct Will E. Coyote contraption touch to it! bravo clap clap clap. only downside I see is you need a large volume to install it. Nonetheless, it will put many engineer to shame.
