Wow Cotton Candy from Delicious

Yup...looks like the tops will be done way before the bottom half. I plan to do a step 2 harvest & take out the colas first as they become ripened, then leave the lower buds & popcorn to mature for a couple more weeks. Thinking about re-vegging & taking clones especially from Candy ...she smells/looks so damn good...80+ days seems about right patience patience :D

I find that not many strains actually firm up on the bottom doing this. The cotton was very receptive to leaving the bottoms on. The little fluffy nugs firmed right up on what was left of the stalks and the trichs on on the calyxes changed very noticeably from about 5% amber to 20% amber... the sugar leaves went from 50% amber when the tops were taken off to about 75% amber on the bottoms that were left for an additional two weeks extra.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm a little confused with the indica traits on this plant. I don't have any more seeds but I I've been maintaining clones from the delicious seed... so I don't have to worry about it being a fluke and getting a different p-type on the next order.

I've only done this once so I can't really say from experience but I won't be doing it again.. when I chopped the top half to let the bottom thicken and mature it killed my bud to leaf ratio trying to compensate for loss of green foliage..

Another thing on the CC... it is def a good strain for a beginner.

It was the easiest plant out of 7 in bloom. It sat in the corner, didn't bitch at all about anything at all which if it is a Sat dom I find this pecualiar in itself b/c sats are a bumhc of bitches and complain about everything.

The only thing I had to do for the CC make sure she got her feed and turn her from time to time and then she swelled and matured to finish. Trimming her was very easy too... and I fucking hate trimming.

I don't think calyx to leaf ratio matters much at this stage of the plants development. By the time you chop the tops, the majority of development has passed and half of the leaves are dead or dying anyways. Additionally, calyx development slows way down almost to a halt once the plant has finished swelling (most strains swell is between weeks 6-8) and many stop calyx development around week 8 in my experience with exceptions for some sat strains.

Yes well I probly should have mentioned I only grow landrace sativas. I can chop early at 17 weeks but they have such a huge harvest window. I can take em to 22 weeks for 20% amber

You my friend have far more patience than I. I become jaded at week 12... I'm not a commercial operation but 22 weeks is a huge investment and counterproductive for me ... but I'm sure it's well worth it in the end. I'd be pulling my lips off watching a plant taking up that much light coverage for that long of a time at the size I grow.

Oh don't get me wrong.. it puts a new meaning to demoralizing.......but I have no way of getting seeds at the moment so I'm "stuck" with crazily long flowering plants... the high is wonderful and they are low odor so its all good....I would gladly swap out for a 12 week sativa with probly the same qualities (just without the bragging rights)

Follow-up on the Cotton Candy.

Cured for four weeks, this strain was by far one of the best looking, smelling, tasting and smoking out of 14 strains that I've dealt with. I'd probably rate it #2 on my list.

The cycle after this CC put out a couple different Kush strains and I'd have to say that the Kush n Cheese is absolutely divine and comes in at #1 on my list so far.

EDIT: The CC was also the second highest yielding strain out of the 14.
