Donald Trump has retweeted three inflammatory videos from a British far-right group.

The first tweet from Jayda Fransen, the deputy leader of Britain First,

claims to show a Muslim migrant attacking a man on crutches.

This was followed by two more videos of people Ms Fransen claims to be Muslim.

Britain First was founded in 2011 by former members of the far-right British National Party (BNP).

The group has grabbed attention on social media with controversial posts

about what they deem "the Islamification of the UK".

It has put up members to run in European elections and by-elections on anti-immigration

and anti-abortion policies, but has yet to secure any seats.

It also contested the most recent London mayoral election, receiving 1.2% of the vote.

Responding to the posts from Mr Trump, UK Prime Minister Theresa May's official spokesman said

it was "wrong for the President to have done this".

The original video was shared by US conservative commentator Ann Coulter who Mr Trump follows.

Ms Fransen has more than 52,000 followers on Twitter.

The tweets were flagged as containing sensitive material by Twitter

She responded enthusiastically to Mr Trump sharing her tweets.

She posted on her account: "Donald Trump himself has retweeted these

videos and has around 44 million followers!"

"God bless you Trump! God bless America!" she added.

The message was also shared on Britain First's Twitter account.

Trump's warning

Donald Trump is once again using Twitter to weigh in on contentious

religious-tinged political issues in the UK.

In the past, he's attacked London Mayor Sadiq Khan for mishandling a militant attack

just hours after it occurred. He misattributed a rise in crime in England and Wales

to the "spread of radical Islamic terror". Now, he has retweeted a series of

unverified videos posted by a far-right British nationalist group.

For the president, directing attention toward the UK seems to serve a domestic political purpose.

He cites events and opinions there as a warning to Americans of what could happen in the US

if they do not heed his policy prescriptions on immigration and border security.

The Muslim ban, the US-Mexico wall, increased deportations, the sharp reductions on refugee

resettlement - it's all part of the president's "national security" package.

While most Americans probably haven't heard of Britain First and are unfamiliar with

European radical nationalist movements, there are white supremacist groups in the US

that follow the actions of these overseas operations quite closely.

The president on Wednesday signalled that he watches them too.

Earlier this month, Ms Fransen was charged with using "threatening, abusive or insulting
words or behaviour" during speeches she made in Belfast
.

She will appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Thursday 14 December

Mr Trump's decision to retweet the videos met dismay on social media.

Brendan Cox, whose wife, British MP Jo Cox, was murdered by a right-wing extremist

who shouted "Britain First" before committing the act, has condemned the action.

TV presenter and journalist Piers Morgan, who has called himself a "friend" of the president,

tweeted: "What the hell are you doing?"

"Please STOP this madness & undo your retweets," he said.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a US-based civil rights group, said:

"These are actions one would expect to see on virulent anti-Muslim hate sites,

not on the Twitter feed of the president of the United States."

"Trump's posts amount to incitement to violence against American Muslims," they added.

The head of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an anti-bigotry group, said the

president's retweets would "embolden bigots in the US and abroad".

The Muslim Council for Britain called on the UK government to "distance" itself from the comments.

"This is the clearest endorsement yet from the US president of the far-right and

their vile anti-Muslim propaganda," a spokeswoman said.

Leader of the UK's opposition Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn said Mr Trump's actions posed

"a threat to our society".

Trump wrong to share far-right videos - PM

It was "wrong" for US President Donald Trump to retweet videos posted by far-right group Britain First, Downing Street says.

The US president retweeted three posts by the group's deputy leader including unverified footage purporting to show Muslims committing crimes.

Number 10 has joined those criticising the president for the tweets.

Theresa May's spokesman said Britain First used "hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions".

Any idea what benefit goes to Trump from these tweets? It makes no sense at all to me why he would be doing this.

Nobody cares. Trump supporters are too stupid to see that he is feathering the nests of himself and the wealthy. They want a troll for President because that eight years of a black man in the White House was just turrble.

I can't answer your questions about the Brits but yes, there are still plenty of Trump supporters here. Why are they supporting a tycoon? Their actions are not logical, they are not voting in their economic best interests. Many of them are so ignorant that they think the economy suddenly got better because of Trump when it was really a long hard slog out of the Republican mess that was left from before 2008. But mostly they support him because he says the hateful things that are in their hearts and he pisses off the "libtards" that have made them accept things like gay marriage. Others are blinded by racism and consider terror attacks to be a major threat to their lives while they ignore the violence done by just regular old white people.

Why do the rank and file Russians support Putin? Because he makes them feel proud and strong while in reality many of them are drinking "bath oil" as a cheap substitute for vodka while Putin amasses one of the world's largest personal fortunes ever out of their assets.

Same thing. Times are going to change. Wait for it.

I think this was a clever move by Trump. It is dog whistling at its best. Most decent Americans won't be revolted because the ideas of the "Britain First" party are not well known to them. But the racists, nazis and fascists of America will know and will realize that he is nodding to them directly. When the chips are down, they will still support him and if push comes to shove they will do it violently.

Trump's numbers aren't going any further down. Even if he appeared on the Truman balcony in a Klan hood, they would probably stay above 30%. Face it, this is America today. We don't want to face that unpleasant fact. That won't get him re-elected but it might keep him in power.

Something very bad is coming. Trump is calling "the faithful".

I fear they'll get far worse, because it's easier to just condemn him by soundbite and move on than do the heavy lifting of actually getting rid of him.

By the time Americans realize their mistake by inaction, the economy will be in free fall, just like 2008.
