just found out i'll be moving to cali, bay area. talk about high rent.

we rent a single family house with a huge backyard and attached garage for $1k a month here in portland, and that kind of money will get you 400 sq ft in the bad part of oakland it seems.

anybody got any good leads on something within ~30 minutes of san jose with 2 bedrooms? this shit is bananas.

:-?

I can't offer much in the way of leads, but I will say.. check -all- phone numbers you find on the web if the price seems too good to be true for San Jose.. there's a few 'owners' who claim to be living in Georgia, but just so happens they have a Chinese phone number, as one of many shady-type things I found with a quick search on Trulia.

well, my wife will get a $18k stipend in addition to her meager investment income.

my income will depend on the size of the second bedroom.

Exactly, thats why I was saying 50k = poverty level living in the bay. In other places that can be living well.

Good luck man. I read an article where 5 or 6 of the 10 most expensive rental markets in the country are in the bay area. A lot of people commute a long ways to avoid the cost of living there.

on that note, how is the commute around those parts?

looks like there might be some hope of a decent place in the pleasanton/livermore area, maybe even the gilroy/morgan hill area, but that's gonna be a 30-45 minute commute with perfect roads. kinda curious about what kind of fuckery the traffic introduces to that equation.

the only bright side to this whole year long arrangement is that i do have family in willits that grows, so at least i don't have to find a new clientele. not that i would imagine there's many people without a weed hookup in that area.
