You Light Up My Life!!

Before I ask the question I'd like to say how much I enjoy this site. I find the subject fascinating, the postings interesting and the tutorials and pictures excellent. It lights up my life. Also I'm a bit chuffed cos my first posting (I Know so Little it's Laughable) has received 111 viewings in only 4 days and quite a few good replies. OK so I should get out more I know....

The question is this....
I know you are supposed to use fluorescents to boost the seedlings, but for my first grow can I use the veggind light in any way for that purpose.

Also I've seen these inexpensive propagators for other seedling, would they work?

When I do get a fluorescent, what size and wattage would I need for 10 seedlings?

Many thanks in advance for any replies and perhaps one day one of you clever guys could do a tutorial on lighting. Maybe a good subject for a competition.

This is an edit. I've just found a good article by Matth8203 in General Marj Growing date May 23 2006 entitled Things You Need To Know About Lighting. This is a great article about lighting.

Keep up the good work, much appreciated, cheers all.

Since you edited your message, I take it that Matt's article answered your questions?

Basically, young seedlings or rooting clones don't need much light, and cheap flourescents will do the job nicely. If you want to use an HID on young plants, just put it at least a meter above them.

The main thing is to watch your plants. They will tell you how they're doing, and what they need.

Have fun
