Your water pump could be hiding a dirty secret!

So I'm cleaning the water pump from my DIY aerocloner earlier, it's a pretty standard 400gph pond pump, and the cover popped off the back. There's a big F'ING void inside the case, maybe 2OZ of water. I always wondered why it took so long to drain. I assumed there was water that could freely flow through the case, for cooling, but no, it's just a big pocket. There's virtually no way for water to get in and out except around the seams of the back cover and cord grommet. It probably sits almost stagnant between changes, and if you don't give it time to drain, it's probably holding a bit. It's right under the motor coil, so it's always getting heated directly when it's running. It seems like a perfect breedng ground for bacteria. I'm ripping those covers off all my pumps. I bet the motors run slightly cooler as well.

I've never had any issues, I sterilize my equipment regularly, even during the grow. Just figured I'd give others a heads up. Could be hiding some nasty stuff.
