I am starting this journal because I think it will be informative to all rookie's ,As I myself am one. This will be my second grow .I tried to jump straight in and do hydroponics the first time but was very unimpressed with my rookie harvest ammount. So I wanna give good ole fashion soil growing a chance this time around.

My Genetics
4 Wonder woman females
6 freebie seeds I recieved from nirvana

These babys have already sprouted and are about 6 inches tall already ,I will be placing them in there containers tomorrow.

The Set up
Plants will be placed in 5 gallon buckets from veg to flower (Does this sound like it will be enough space for a decent yield?)
Grow Tent 76"x76x76
Mylar Lined, Vented
1 600 watt Mh for veg Hps for Flower (Air Cooled hood)
1 450 watt mh for veg Hps for flower
2 oscilating fans
Also Interested in an effective cheap potting soil (Please shoot some recommendations my way)

My nutrient's will be as follow(These nutrients were purchased during My hydro attempt can I add these to the water I will water my soil with?)
Humboldt Bloom
Humboldt Micro
Humboldt Grow
Big Bud
An B52

Please give me any imput on this nutrient situation.

My grow room is kinda a mess right now with this last minute change of plans. Ill take pictures of it in the next couple days when I get it set up right :)So keep checking back daily for updates.I will be updating this regulary and wanna see this grow turn out alot better then my hydro attempt. I hope for this to be a learning experience for me and all the rookies who subscribe along the way.

Sorry its been so long ,These pictures were snapped after 2 days of vegging 24 hrs. I also added some veggies from my outdoor garden (Green tomatoes, Habinero peppers , Green peppers ) And Im only using my 600 watt mh bulb for vegging my current electricity set up cant handle both lights with out down time.

Okay ,So sorry haven't updated in a while ,Still really busy. Okay so I have this one plant that is growing outrageously faster then the others, the stems are turning purple ,And It has like 2 little balls at i believe the first node. I am worried that it might be a male as ive never seen this but the thing is I havent been vegging but about 2 weeks. 24 hrs of light so from what I read there is noway that it could be showing sex yet. It was a freebie nirvana sent me and i have no clue of the strain.

Also having yellowing issues but I'm pretty sure I just need to cut back on the watering/nutes

Why is it growing so fast? See the balls? Is it possible this is male , There has been 0% downtime on the lights .Can strains show sex before flowering?

those pics are really hard to make out. looking at the pic and seeing the size of the others if they have been under hid lighting for 2 weeks something isnt right with them imo. they should all be around the size that one is now.how are you deciding when to water? have you been checking the ph of the water you give them? how are your temps and airflow?

on to the other questions.
Yes, if a plant is large and mature enough to flower it will begin alternating nodes and showing preflowers, regardless of light cycle. however preflowers can be hard to tell on some plants so its not advised you cut anything before putting it into 12/12 to confirm its a male. you have plenty of time to kill it before it can do any damage after revealing its sex as male for sure. its also not extremely uncommon for males to flower under veg cycles, ive seen it a few times personally.

now the plant has the little hairs coming out , the little balls are all still there .Im watering whenever the dirt begins to feel crisp.Keep in mind they are all different strains . But I read somewhere where those balls could just be calyxes ..Idk Im a wait till flower. Ill keep you guys updated.

this is some good info from 10k on when to water, if i was to write it out myself it would be pretty much word for word with what he says. the fact they are different strains doesnt matter that much too btw, they should all be doing around as well as the largest one is.
What is the "lift the pot" method?

Added by: 10k

The "lift the pot" method is a widely practiced, and very accurate method of knowing when to water your container plants.

The best way imho, to know when soil grown potted plants need more watering is by checking how heavy the pots feel. This method is very simple to learn once you get the feel for how light a ready for watering pot of soil feels.

Get an equal size pot and fill it with your soil. The medium should be about as moist as a new bag of potting soil. Use this planter as a learning tool to get a rough idea of how much the pots should weigh before watering again. The pots with your plants will feel only just slightly heavier when the soil is ready for more water. Pick up one of your planted pots, if its noticably heavy, do not water it until it feels "light". Next time you water a planter, pick it up and feel how much heavier it feels compared to the sample pot of soil.

It only takes a few times picking up the pots until this skill is like a "second nature" to you. You wont even need the sample pot after you get accustomed to the lifting method.

Sure your plants are always putting on more weight as they grow larger, but once you're proficient at lifting the pots, you'll also know how to compensate for the weight of the plants with ease.

I dont know how to better explain this method of knowing when to water, but believe me, anyone who learns this method, will always know when its time to water.

it will be hella easy for me to learn that method thats a wonderful idea . Thanks and very simple to understand. Im fixen to go take some new pictures. The biggest baby is already getting flowers , Im thinking maybe one of the freebies they sent me was an autoflower, Because it looks be starting to full on flower I could be wrong As this is my first REAL all out grow , I tried hydroponics before but it was to complicated/expensive

keep us updated, i'll be watching. dont worry if things dont go perfect at first, im sure you'll get the hang of it. first grow is more about learning than the actual yeild most of the time so stick with it and you'll do good.
