Mid TN outdoor grow

Hello! I'd like to say that this forum has been a fantastic source of information on the cultivation of cannabis so far, and I decided to register because I have some questions about my upcoming grow, and would love to contribute to the forum in any way I can.

I am planning this grow in the Middle Tennessee area- We have a very long growing season (first frost usually not occurring until late October, however we have had years where I have waterskied as late as thanksgiving before). This extended growing season (mid April through October) Should give me plenty of time for my plants to mature.

A little bit about my site- It is located in a moderately dense hardwood-deciduous tree forest. I have a water source, and light should not be much of a problem. The soil is slightly rocky, and if I had to guess I would say it is predominantly composed of clay. I have already dug 60 (the number of plants I wish to cultivate) 2 foot deep by 1 1/2 foot wide holes, in which I tilled mushroom compost and the original soil together in order to give it more favorable growing qualities, on top of the nitrogen and other macronutrients that the plant needs.

My main question involves strain selection. I have not talked to any growers in the area, and have little desire to. I have done hours of research on various websites, and have a rough idea of some strains I think would be suitable for my application.

1. Durban Poison (Dutch Passion) I have read much about this strain, and am fairly interested. It is a sativa strain, and Is grown in large amounts in S. Africa, so I assume it is good.

2. Skunk #1 From what I have read, It's a solid producer. I have heard that it is susceptible to mold, however, which could be an issue.

3. Master Kush Mixed feelings on this one. Some say grow it outdoors, some say it doesn't do too well. I've read grow logs and they seem to do alright.

4. Ak-47 read that it was good for outdoor guerilla grows, however I will be able to care for my plants so I'm not sure If that is a good choice.

5. THC bomb I discovered this strain (and the rest of the bomb seed strains) While browsing a seedbank website. supposedly amazing yields and they grow outdoors well, but is that true? Hard to find accurate outdoor grow logs for them.

If you have any recommendations, I am all ears. I'm an avid agriculturalist and find this subject interesting. I am very new at this as well, so any help with strain selection is greatly appreciated.

I did some searching ( I wasn't sure what the abbreviation ECSD stood for), and what actual strain would you recommend and from what seed producer? I have been looking on attitude seedbank and have found several strains that bear the name "sour diesel" but I have not found an east coast variety.

EDIT:
I think I've found that ECSD is not a specific strain, but more of a genus of all the sour diesel plants, is this correct? If it is, does anyone have any recommendations on what seed supplier and strain to get?

Ecsd is a diesel cut. Dna genetics offers a seed version using the same parents,
I would feel comfortable using those beans.

We are in the same region (race fan?) and I've been grow NL x Big Bud for a couple years now. Great producer and it's been a fairly forgiving strain so far.

Good Luck with which strain you go with.

Indeed! Nice to hear of other local growers. Anyways, I decided that for my first year I would do a grow with several different strains of plants. These seeds are on the way:
DP Durban Poison
DP Dutch Haze
DP White Widow
BF LSD
Bomb seeds Berry Bomb
Serious Seeds AK47
and the Northern lightsxbig bud cross you spoke of.

Hopefully everything goes well for me! I will most likely keep some sort of a grow log. Thank you for your assistance.

Ive got one WW thats been out for a week now. It was a freebie from Nirvana and since this strain is new to me I figured I would give it an early start.

Dont forget that in our part of the country April can throw us a curve. I have my plants in 3 gallon containers so I can move em inside just in case we get hit with a nasty frost or worse.

BTW, nice to see a fellow grower from nearby.

Just a little update- All the seeds came in, and I am nearing the end of the germination process (moist paper towel/plastic bag method). I had a 100% germ rate with all the varieties except for the Berry Bomb, where two of the ten have yet to germinate. I placed them in red solo cups filled with potting soil that has good drainage qualities. under 2 fluorescent 40watt GE "plant and aquarium" bulbs. Hopefully this will be enough to get them the first couple of sets of leaves before they make their trip outside. I'm rather excited about this grow, and hope to have them in the ground by April the 20th, give or take a week, in order to provide them with ample time to veg and then, of course, flower.
It looks as though I will have 45-47 seedlings that will be able to make it outdoors. This isn't strictly a guerilla grow persay, as I can check on them every other day, but they will be grown in a clearing in the forest. I'm slightly concerned with the amount of light they will receive, but finding another spot would be close to impossible at this point.
I'm hoping to harvest enough to last me a year, with enough to give to friends as gifts for birthdays, graduations and what not. I've read up on storage techniques, and so far I've come to the conclusion that the Mason Jar/deep freeze is the most efficient method of storing it, and that it can be as potent as the day it was cured 2 years after you put it in the freezer. So thats what I figure I will go with.
As far as pesticides go, I know most of you steer away from them. I'm not a big user. but I would like to keep the bugs away atleast while they are in their vegitative stage, so I'm planning on dusting with Sevin regularly until they are big enough that it won't matter as much.

Well that was a large, rambly post. If any of you have questions or comments, let me know.
By the way, the dinafem freebies I received from Attitude had the best, by far, germination rate (as far as time is concerned) out of all the varieties. I was rather pleased.

maybe put out slug/snail bait pellets spread out around the plants, they can do a lot of damage to seedlings overnight.
also if you figure out what time of day they are in the sun warming up (local weather hour to hour) , thats the best time to water. If they don't get at least 6 hrs of light make the watering count

bahia .jpgbahia.jpgthis is a very good strain for your area, bahia blackhead from k.c brains these where grew in 10 gal. grow bags in a swamp in maine and yeilded 1lb+ each no mold at all be a solid choice for ya in my opinion. done by end sept first part oct. 6-8 ft tall and wide good luck

I love seeing Midwest people on here, well almost midwest. Close enough for me. Here in Indiana I have had great success growing Big Bang. I have tried growing big band, and White Widdow X NL with mixed results. The Big bang was the shizzit though. This year I will be trying BubbleGummer, Bless the Indiana roots and all, Sweet Black Angel, Big Bang again, Number One (Super Auto), and Shot Automatic. All these will be grown outdoors and I already have shot auto in pots outside growing nicely.

It seems in this slightly northern US climate that Indica's would do well. If I were you, I'd stick to a nice hybrid of some sort.

look at serenade spray for disease control. And for your new seedlings if you put them out and are worried about critters with the munchies try a 2 liter bottle mini green house for them though you would need a shit load of em for for all your plants..just a thought.. good luck! im near ur area too btw thumbs up!

I've actually considered using wide diameter PVC pipe cut in sections to fit around the plant- We always did this when I commercially grew tomatoes to keep birds and the like away. As far as keeping the deer and other grazing animals away, I have quite the stash of deer blood that I use to train my tracking dogs. I think that will suffice. It is my first grow, but I'm hoping that because i've started so many seedlings, even with mistakes I should be able to get a yield that would be worth my time. Good luck on all the local growers as well! When are you putting your plants in the ground/outside? It seems to me that we have had an abnormally warm spring, but I don't want that to lull me into a false sense of security and put my plants out too early.

Well, here is a little sneak peek of my seedlings. Some of them haven't pushed through the soil yet, and yes, I know, lighting isn't ideal. It is what I have available at the moment, and should be sufficient to give them atleast 2 sets of true leaves without making them super leggy.
the ones in the small drawer are WW/Barney's farm LSD seedlings, the rest in the large row are the other varieties. 0408122239.jpg0408122240 (1).jpg
By the way- The large green mass you see in the second picture is not cannabis. It's a giant pumpkin strain I started at roughly the same time. It's one of my hobbies.

UPDATE:
My seedlings are looking a little leggy, or stretched, however this is my first time cultivating cannabis so I wouldn't know what to look for. I have 4 T12 plant lights less than an inch from their first true leaves, and hopefully this keeps them a little more short and bushy. The rest of the berry bomb seeds did indeed germ, and already poking their pretty little heads through the growing medium. I can't wait to put these guys outside and get growing. I'm hoping for a decent yield this year. I'm going to be using Jack's Classic 20-20-20 for veg and bloom booster for the flowering stage, then allow several weeks to flush before harvesting. At the rate at which they are growing, I think I will be able to place them outside within 2 1/2 weeks at the latest, which is a little later than I would have liked, but I think they will have plenty of time to mature in god's great outdoors.

What’s up local west TN grower here. Just starting out growing cannabis. Had a pretty successful run with LSD autos indoors last year. But this year I’m trying my hand at outdoor photos. Completely different beast I know. Wish me luck. Got my beans popped and growing in 5 gallon fabric pot till after the first of May then they’re going in the ground. Gonna dig holes and fill with FFOC.
