organic flushing question

Hmm, I was using biothrive it's technically "veganic". So you guys are saying don't give any nutrients to the plant for the last 4 weeks? Sounds crazy to me. Unless you loaded the soil with way too many nutrients to begin with.

Greatwhite, can you clarify what you mean by chemical? I'm thinking you are implying inorganic, but I did not want to assume.

Maybe I was too quick to respond. Yoyo said any liquid nute, I'm thinking more clarification is needed as this sounds misleading imo.

Tea's not withstanding if made of natural ingredients.
I may be weird, but I just like to stay as organic as possible as it seems more "right" to me.
I'll not preach about more potent this or that - better taste etc, it's just the way I like to do things.

Technically according to who? When I look on the label the only thing I see is their marketing - no organic certifications. It's not even OMRI listed. Do we really have any idea what they put in that bottle?

Opening of the MSDS - how do they get away with this?

"Ingredients: BioThrive® Grow’s ingredients and the chemical identity of the compounds and their exact proportions used in the mixture are a trade secret. It does not contain toxic chemicals in concentrations subject to the reporting requirements of OSHA or section 313 of Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 and CFR Part 372."

Sorry the first one is the label, the second is the msds.

Organic nutrients in a bottle are inferior to dry amendments. Build a soil and use teas. Throw away the bottles.

I've done both ways, you preserve flavor and slow the curing process by leaving the leaves on. The leaves wrap around the buds and protect it from air and trap all those juicy oils/terpenes for a fantastic flavorful frenzy. The trimming isn't as easy though I'll admit. But its worth it for terpene retention in my view. I noticed my nug smelled crazy when I would trim, its because those oils are being released and opened to the air. Now they go straight in the jar immediately after trimming to keep that smell! Everybody says my stuff is way smoother/better tasting now.

I guess veganic doesn't mean what I thought it meant. It has no animal derived ingredients but upon closer inspection, it looks like it does have ferric sulfate, a few other chemicals. I will be trying soil amendments only next time.

There is a list of acceptable inorganic ingredients that are allowed in organics. This is why a USDA certification means little, but is better then nothing. Find out the origins of all your ingredients. You'll be surprised what they sell as 'premium fertilizers'.

This is why I consistently bash bottle products. They are selling a bunch of crap to make a profit. They don't give a rats ass how organic or inorganic it is, they're just looking at the bottom line (inert ingredients anyone?). This is exactly what my signature is referring to:

I very much disagree with this. Still more hydrostore mentality about not 'feeding' before you chop. 'Never give your plant anything' is way too vague. I give my plants aloe water, coconut water, etc past 4 weeks. I would even top dress after 4 weeks depending on how the plant looks.

most likely your herbs lack the intense resin profile they would get through degradation....this is nature. I been at this tlo since 96, and I have learned through experience. for the most extreme resin profile, a plant needs to cannibalize itself in order to properly direct its energy into resin profile. not just resin production, but for the most extreme expression of said resin

I been at this tlo since 96, and I have learned through experience. for the most extreme resin profile, a plant needs to cannibalize itself in order to properly direct its energy into resin profile. not just resin production, but for the most extreme expression of said resin

This is residual from hydro gardening. We are growing in organics, not the same. If anything, I think your drying process has a far greater effect on the flavor, taste, smoothness, etc.

mmmmmm.....I never grew hydro.....drying and curing? yes. throughout the seasonal changes microbial life populations fluctuate, disappear, reappear. seasonally in nature. what exits in the soil in spring and summer is different than fall...outdoors...fact. my soil indoors does the same I believe. ive been growing a strain for years now. same cutting recloned hundreds of times....its easier to see the bigger picture with fewer variables. I run new seeds all the time as well, but my ten year old deathstar has been a benchmark type plant. that kind of time lets one see how different mixes, mediums, top dressings, teas,etc...effect a plants response to soil and the active life within

my opinion is that if youre plant is totes green at harvest, it is too much in a spring type mindset, on the cellular level. too much plant energy went to keeping it too green thereby stealing expression potential from resin. expression being the smells and flavor and most importantly potency. your green plant will likely have a lot more sugar leaf resin in the end. but my plants expression will drop yer jaw

I mean the whole mentality is a residual effect from the hydrostore marketing. Tlo is not a reliable source of information about organic gardening.

I have ran the same strains for many years. For the last few years they have all unfortunately been different. I agree, it can be a great learning tool. With that said, Try and apply that philosophy to other crops and it doesn't work. MMJ is a plant. Plain and simple. They need air, water, nutrients, sunlight, etc to prosper just like any other plant. Now, I'm not saying to dump a big dose of Tomato Bob's 10-20-10 OMRI listed nute on your plants. I'm talking about a living organic soil, relying on the soil food web.

Please explain 'stealing expression potential from resin'. This doesn't make sense to me.
