What Causes Small Fan Leaves

I never seem to get large fan leaves although I have managed to grow some pretty decent plants over the years. . This plant in particular has tiny fanners.
Is it possible that my lights are too close or intense? Or is it likely genetics? This looks like a mint plant.

Looks a bit like of lack of oxygen from too frequent watering + move the light further away for a week and check the results..
Leds can be quite intense ,its a tiny plant its not a power hungry monster yet...try at least 30 inches for the start...it won't do damage ,
then as it progress ,weekly move it a bit closer..SLOWLY ...

Bunch of things can cause small fan leaves. If the plant is healthy...it could be the genetics themselves. lve found that lots of topping when they are young to get bushy lateral growth can cause smaller fans if i go overboard with pinching or scissors . I have to let the plant veg a little longer once ky desired shape is locked in. But it pays at harvest....all that topping and waiting

A smaller pot and a plant wanting a bigger one would make the plant bolt straight up with little to no side branching. You can tell really. The plant screams at you for a transplant and pot up. Medium dries daily if not within hours of last guzzle. But yeah....my smaller leaf plants in my veg room are almost always from me playing with the canopy and scissors....trying for multi topped leaders before going in the flower room. Once you get them bushes from topping and tying down....wait a little while to get it really ready to jam out with flowers. Leaves will start to get bigger and it will resume rapid growth. Roots are nice and developed....then you flower them bitches. Big giant buds.

If you are set on using small pots I believe UB posted a while back about chemical root pruning, 100g of copper hydroxide to 1 quart of latex paint.. Scratch the permiter of your pot with steel wool and paint it on. He grew some trees
In those and upcanned to threes, with no rootbinding

Is your light 75 actual Watts? Perhaps more light would help as well

Thanks all,

I raised the light to about 28 inches. Fanners are filling in. Plants look healthier.

I popped one of the Afghanis from Herbies.. Boy, what an ugly looking plant :)
