it's so nice to see that pad is still peddling his same line of crap in my absence. we all get it, pad. religion is an abomination and its followers are all idiots. only enlightened people like you could possibly enjoy the sort of intellect needed to succeed in the modern world. what is truly amazing is that you can find a bunch of sycophants ignorant enough to blindly follow your folly and nod with sage idiocy as you paint entire populations with your broad brush.
i hate to break it to you folks, but the OP is a steaming load to begin with. ancient alien theory and 2012 predictions both run contrary to the teachings of the abrahamic creeds that make up the bulk of western religious thought. the suspicious mind needed to question the politics behind forced vaccination and the climate change scare is completely unrelated to the ability to believe in those things we cannot possibly understand. it is the steady distancing of the elitists of the liberal establishment from the grassroots religious attitudes that are held by the vast majority of their constituents that enables those suspicions to fester. as for the degradation of the english language, look once more to the establishment which proposes a populism born of ignorance. in fact, some correlation may even be found between the decline of religious influence in the western world and the lack of basic language skills among those who profess literacy.
the simple fact is that religion requires only the ability to suspend disbelief, an ability that has been directly linked to intelligence. while radical atheism attempts to paint the religious as ignorant, it sets itself up as the modern inquisition. where torquemada and his ilk once claimed that what they considered heathens were unfit to live and breed, radical atheists now make similar claims, that believers are unfit to make life's decisions, on those who choose to believe differently than themselves. the very sort of intolerance that once led to mass murder and segregation is now being used to make suspect the decisions of those who choose to believe that something greater than themselves is in control of the universe.
you know that i don't number myself among the faithful. i despise the god concept in all its forms, but i find it impossible to fault those who choose the other road. unlike many of you, i don't need to validate my own position by belittling the beliefs of others. mine is good enough for me and that's all that matters. i certainly don't need to invent fictitious correlations to prove how enlightened i am.

considering the ignorance shown in the OP, are we supposed to see atheism as requiring ignorance? a vast segment of the world's population revels in its ignorance and stupidity and a majority of our population embraces some religion, that a huge number of the religious should be ignorant buffoons shouldn't come as any great surprise. what is disingenuous is to hold up that number and claim its ignorance is the prerequisite for religious belief. what is dishonest is to hold out a number of the religious who may engage in dubious mythologies or conspiracy theories and claim that the roots of their religious fervor and the roots of their delusions are the same. this is the game played by intolerant atheists and it sickens any thinking man.

I'm not sure someone can be told, I hope all of us have seen The Matrix, Morpheus explains to Neo "you can't be told what the Matrix is, you have to see it for yourself", the Matrix being a metaphor for atheism, and once you do experience it, there's no going back, that's one of the best visual representations of the experience and they nailed it perfectly.
I think the defensive reaction comes from not figuring it out on your own, which causes feelings of a kind of intellectual class warfare where it's them v. the people who did figure it out on their own (non believers). Couple that with the spokespeople like Pat Robertson or Bill OReilly whose job it is to misinform (as statistics prove) their viewers, the average person doesn't stand a chance.. Most people are too ignorant to know what's going on or are relatively comfortable with their life.
I'm comfortable saying most religious people also believe at least one of the other claims listed in the OP and it would probably be pretty difficult to find a non believer who believes any of them. I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out that clear correlation. There's something to be said about it, and it will probably offend some people, unfortunate, but a justified reason towards progress.
Yeah, I'm glad you pointed that out, I misspell certain words sometimes, it's a lot easier to spell if you have spell check on, which 99% of computers on the planet have. Which means (in most cases), dude saw that he misspelled the word, didn't care, and posted anyway. I've even seen it in posts where people are defending their level of education or trying to refute a scientific theory when they have no clue what science or theory means.. The more you get a feel for someone through their posts you get a pretty clear idea of what kind of person you're dealing with, what's likely important to them, what kind of person in general they are. I could probably give a pretty accurate description of at least 10 different people here just from reading the way they write their posts.

I can count the number of those kinds of people that I know on one hand. In my personal experience, they're pretty rare.

And in case you missed it, each person whose agreed or disagreed with the OP have given their reasons why, so I'm not sure why you think anyone is following anything blindly.
That they run contrary to traditional belief makes little difference to theists. People work on Sunday (Exodus 35:2 "For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death."), shave their beards (Leviticus 19:27 "Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard")... So let's be honest.. People do what suits them, not what the Bible (or any holy text) says is right.

I firmly believe that people who believe in traditional religion are ignorant. I also believe the evidence proves it. Just because it may not be politically correct to state it doesn't mean it's false. 99% of people who don't believe in established scientific theories are ignorant of how they actually work. Religion provides an easy way out, where they can simply conclude it's bullshit without ever seeing it for themselves.
This has nothing to do with validation, and that's where you're always wrong. It has to do with living in a world full of ignorant fucks.
