  • thanks, I will check those things on the nameplate but I need to check inside because outside says nothing. I have contacted who sold me that and I hope to find help there also. Seems that I can't send pics yet. For now thanks for your help you've been very kind!!!
im sorry i do not know the wiring in the Uk. but firts thing is that you need to verify the voltage source coming from your house to the voltage of the light. on the side of the light should be a nameplate listing the volts, amps, and bulb type along with the wattage.
some lights are multi voltage which means that they can be wired for different voltages depending on where you plan to plug it in
a pic of the light would be very helpful. or maybe the brand and model number and i can google it.
usually you will hard wire a cord to the light to power the ballast and install a plug on the other end to connect to your house power. i usually just use sjo cord for this. its similar to an extention cord. i have also used an ext cord by cutting the cord and wire to the light and leave the plug on the other end.
i remove my socket from the ballast and run a wire from the ballast location to the room and connect the socket or lampholder to that. i usually use romex or uf wire for this. the wire is stiff so its harder to work with, at the point where connected to the light. but it also helps to position the light by bending the wire in just the right spot. the reason i dont use sjo cord is due that the cord is only rated for 300 volts and the voltage can go over that going to the bulb under certain conditions.
