LOL,. we joke because we care. Seriously it depends, the plants can't tell time so it is really about what you grow in. Do you grow in coco, don't let it ever get dry. Do you grow in soil, I don't but from what I understand it is best to let it dry out some before watering.

if you have to fill a same size pot with soil and use the weight as reference for when she needs water. When it's almost as light as the plant then it's time.

What should he do?
Srsly? Op needs to learn when to water by monitoring his plants/pots and then do it. This is learned the usual hard way.

When I was in soil I kept a dry “ blank pot” as a subjective weight article.
When my plants felt as light, they were dry.

Ya, the medium is important for the question too. Coco or soil? I'm doing no-till living soil now, so I try to keep my soil moist, but not too wet. Most people should let soil dry out more between watering, but not too much or the peat can become hydrophobic. Coco should be kept moist.

I had a sphagnum mix go hydrophobic. 0.01% blue Dawn dish soap was needed.
