I guess I have to chime in on this thread since I was one of the early guinea pigs for testing out some of the lights that Dan and his crew were putting together BEFORE they became Timber.

My light is lovingly known as "Frank The Tank" and it was a monster in its day. I would love nothing more than to trade it in on something new but, as is the case with most of the lighting technologies....they get outmoded SO quickly that nobody wants an old model. It was one of the Cree COB lights...bunch of fans....heavy....*sigh* Old Frank is just sitting in his box up in the attic now...but he was great in his day.

If anyone wants Frank, then let me know! :)

Hi @tstick ,

Good to see you around. Hope you are well - and glad Frank is still alive. As promised all of our lights are engineered and designed to be future proof. In your case, that heavy steel box contains what amounts to (2) Single actively cooled Daisies(ish).

I'd like to help you breathe new life into Frank - the new owner can contact us to send in Frank for a retro mod into (2) single daisies on the house.

Take care and best to you and your wife.
Dan

I hope this thread stays going! I have a Timber 4vl and I love it. I'm a huge fan of Timbers customer service specifically @RainDan. I've told this story before but if bought my light and then built my room. Several months after I bought it I finally turned it on and two of the four cobs didn't light. I emailed Timber and a few minutes later @RainDan got back and said to check the fuses. One was bad. He told me about the spare fuses stored on the light! I replaced it and it worked. A few days later I got some new fuses in the mail he sent me! What a dude! I recently mounted my drivers outside my room for less heat with cables from Timber. Easy peasy. I'm a Timber fan and want another 4vl to replace my old Tasty Cree cob fixture when I can afford it.
Where did you find the power cables?

Another reason why Timber and Dan are rated among the very best in the game, pure class.

Very generous of you Dan, simply amazing! This is one reason why I recommend Timber anytime I can, you get a killer fixture and a guy like you to back it up. So glad to have you for my lighting guy.

I’m glad I ran into this thread.
Snowed in in Portland for three days puts a lot of time on your hands.
I love my V3L in my 2x4.
Purchasing a 4x4 and was thinking of going Samsung instead of COB.
Didn’t realize Timber sold the Cypress.
Probably do the Redwood VS since I’ve got the V3L dialed in.
Great lights.

I bought a timber DIY kit a few years ago. Essentially the 4vs/vl without the frame.
I pulled the glass from a XL air cooled hood and replaced it with a piece of 1/8” aluminum and mounted heat sinks and drivers inside. Making a aircooled COB hood with vero29s.

i Have it set up in a 3x3 tent. I can run through the summer without AC and keep 80F easily. No dimming required Mind you in the winter I do need to add a little heat to get my temps running right

Great service and advice from timber. Will buy again is I have the need. But these lights are probably going to last a long long time.

(that’s a SolarCure light in the middle).
