So I was wondering if I could top this plant she’s at least a month and half old she’s the tallest bitch I’ve grown and she don’t stop growing up I’m going to run out of room. So what I was thinking is going through and literally cutting the tops off like a good 6-8 inches back down? Would this hurt her if I give her at least a week to recover any advice would be greatly appreciate
In flowering I'm not touching a damn thing!! I work progressively less as the grow ends which everyone should be doing. It opens up more time for corrections, less stress, more inspection, and less damage done to plants. Of course this is how I grow specifically, and I love cannabis, so this is my play!
As for topping, good rule of thumb is a week before flowering you can top anytime, anywhere in veg, but of course knowledge on the topic of topping is essential for location, and end product looks/function and structure! Each strain is predominantly different than the next, and should be treated accordingly, right?
Look at cutting branches much similar to a trees physiology (as in lower branches get bigger and become trunks/main stems), in a month's time those branches will climb to the top forming secondary colas etc. You get to choose how they react to a cutting! Nodes are another viable piece of structure to include in topping. Don't leave cut tops with bigger leaf nodes than other cut tops leaf nodes, if that makes sense. You will run into uneven canopies. Take into account branch thickness, length, nodes, light penetration, wind surface, and growth space available. Include all these things into cutting tops, take notes, experiment, and learn my friend! =)
I hate waste and use this simple but effective trick for clones/topping. Light raised slightly higher increase top stretch to which I cut a perfect sized top/clone (4") and the nodes underneath tend to be just staring to stretch out which in turn sets you up for the sides to grow right into the new nodes being established.
