Indoor growing

Hi! I'm trying to settle a discussion about male indoor plants.
Here's the question.
As we all know indoor plants have light cycles. 18-6 for veg and 12-12 for flowering. Now is it possible for a male plant to start showing gender early during veg stage? I didn't think it was considering to begin flowering you need to ha e switched your grow lights to 12-12 and 2 weeks later they start showing.. am I wrong?

For the most part plants won't flower in veg but can show sex in the form of female calyx's, pistils, or a few male balls. There are strains that are not auto's that some refer to as semi-autoflowering meaning some may start flowering while still in veg. I've grown a Moroccan Ketama where a couple males went into full flower after 4-5 weeks and still under 18/6. Other plants of the same strain didn't go into flower until switching to 12/12.
