Thoughts on using unground flower for cannabutter?

They mason / ball work great, that reminds me of my wife, told her not to put the freshly out of the ovenPyrex dish under cold water, she was adamant that it wouldn’t be an issue, ended up with glass shards everywhere and her eating crow.

Yeah, these edibles can sure kick you in the junk. I’m gun shy on them from some pretty intense experiences.
I dunno, the 'experiment with dosage' phase can be the most fun. ;)

The other night I made the cocoa crispy treats and used 3g (at a published 19% THC) per 1/2 cup of butter...that in turn went into the marshmallow mix. Divided out into 16 portions theoretically should have been 26mg per piece, we did half sized to test (13mg); which for me was mild, but for my wife it was stronger than needed. We ate before bed and was in and out of sleep...waking up alternately paranoid and other times she said "I kept having great new ideas of things to try in the studio"...so... On the other hand I had my half and felt like it was pretty mild. I could feel it but it wasn't at all too much or overpowering.

Haha, yeah the anxiety attacks that go from 0-100 for what should be the time I am sleeping. The mental gymnastics can be fun, the worst is the swells, like oh no here it comes again, and you know the next wave is coming right behind it.

I did not know that cbda was better for pain, that’s a whole lot easier and better, thank you!

I did the fine grind on the flower but the issue is it settles down to the bottom. when I suck it up from one time to the next I end up with a lot of variability in flower content. I’m using a 10 ml syringe. Something like corn syrup like consistency would suspend flower dust into it I think for better consistency. Or could just dry it and grind into dust and fill without a carrier oil into the capsules.
That's why I use a pipette, and cut back the tip.

And I forgot mention I stir every other cap I fill so each capsule is fairly consistent. I can fill 2 caps with the semi full pipette, then I stir while sucking up more of the mix for the next 2.

When your a canna veteran you learn to hang ten and ride that wave. :hump:

I prefer the racy sativas myself, but it's an acquired taste with a few pitfalls on the way.

What do you start with for grams of flower per ml of oil? What are you shooting for in mg per capsule?
Look at the capsule thread for more details. I go through the math in the thread.

Thanks for the link, I’ll give it a read!

That worked out good!

;) That's always the goal, but not sure we get there. I haven't touched the tincture or the jar reducing to FECO yet. I'd kind of hoped that I could use the end product of the reduction and not have it be too flavorful, so good to know that's not necessarily the path forward. I decarbed the cannabis before I did the alcohol soak so that's all set as far as I know.

...I also plan on doing a 'rice crispy treat' that has cocoa crispies but also I'll add some special cocoa powder I have from King Arthur; it's 'black cocoa' which is super flavorful and dark, so it will hide any residual.
Sooo I have never made butter and got on here to see how it's done. But I don't understand. What do you mean my decarb? And what kind of alcohol do you soak it in? And why?? Sorry for sounding idiotic. But my birthday is coming up and I want some brownies!!

Sorry, I JUST saw this.

Easy enough...

The process of decarboxylation or 'decarbing' is when you heat the cannabis to transform the THCA into THC. Until you do this, your cannabis won't have much if any effect. There's a whole bunch of methods to do it, and a people usually have a favorite way of doing it. But most do it in the oven.

If you're looking at doing brownies, your next step is to infuse butter...and not worry about the alcohol. If you'll visit this thread, it has a whole ton of info about how to infuse butter well: https://www.rollitup.org/f/cooking-with-cannabis.56/

Once you've made the butter, you can make your brownies with ease. I've also used the butter to make easy rice-crispy treats that have worked really well. There are some pictures of those here in this thread. The Fruity Pebbles ones and the Cocoa Crispy ones I made a ways back have lasted. I keep them in the freezer in ziploc bags and just move some to the fridge when I've run through what's there.

If you do indeed want to make an alcohol based tincture, or reduce that to FECO (full spectrum extract) there's a bunch of threads here about it, but I also went through the process here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/infused-honey-playing-with-different-methods-and-recipes.1066162/page-2

...In fact, I dropped in here to check on a few things about the alcohol extract/FECO I made previously that's just been sitting there. I think I'm going to pick up some chocolate molds and use the FECO for a run of chocolates.

Things are totally getting bouj up in here... Mrs. L.E.G. throwing all caution to the wind decided to surprise me with this bit of kit this week.

Actually a pretty nice unit. I wasn't sure, but it's pretty well built like a tank. Just for fun, i'm starting with just some basil infused olive oil. But overall, it looks like a solid move for drying before decarb, decarb (though I'll see about how loud the smell is vs. sous vide). I may even try working with chocolate with it at some point.

Yeah, I'll enjoy using it, but honestly was sort of leaning towards doing more alcohol based stuff. I'll default to this for butter, coconut, and all that, and supposedly you can do honey right in it too.

I will use it for the 'dry' feature and also the decarb. I'll have to see how odor-free that is though.
