Confirming a justice requires a simple majority in the Senate.
52 of 53 Republican Senators voted to confirm.
All 47 Democrat Senators plus Susan Collins, R-Maine, voted against.

It is the sort of en bloc takeover of the process that has characterized the overthrow party under Moscow Mitch’s iron hand.
then we have absolutely no choice but to pack the supreme court with the most liberal judges possible that are still considered reliable, and while we're at it, we should do as much as possible to make it fucking impossible for the republicans to return the favor, IF they ever get into power again.
add 4 liberal justices to the court, and then spend the rest of the term passing convoluted, internecine laws to make it incredibly difficult to add any more. then while we're at it, add in ten year term limits, and no second terms.
if the republicans are left in control of the judicial branch, they will use it to destroy democracy and freedom in America...

It struck me last night, the reason he kept those documents was nothing more than a childish temper tantrum when he lost the elections.
Somehow in his mind those were the only copies of the documents and hiding them from Biden would make the latter's life and job harder somehow.
while that isn't uncharacteristic, i firmly believe he had plans to sell them...trump worships power, and the only way he knows to get power is through money.

It really depends on how far the DOJ case goes. Garland is working imo to ensnare the largest number of the criminal-in-chief’s fellow felons. The upcoming hearing should give us a bit more perspective.

But four right-activist judges lied to the Senate. Thomas probably conspired with the sedition leaders; his wife certainly did. We may see lifetime tenure taken away if a justice is found to be dirty. That would drop the additional justice count by two per removed fascist.

If two Injustices are taken out, and if we don’t lose the Senate, the size of the bench need not change.

that would be good enough, but again, something has to be done about future possiblilties of it happening again.
and WE made this Babylon...the republicans are just the Persians, banging on the gates. WE need to clean it up.

SCOTUS Bernie Sanders? SCOTUS AOC would break their minds. SCOTUS Ilhan Omar would give them heart attacks.

He stole those documents for financial gain, no doubt about that. I believe the clown actually believed he could simply say he declassified them when he got caught with them. He also believed he could drag this out for years, the reason he was caught off guard by the FBI search warrant.

I know a pretty solid Constitutional law guy that would be a good nominee. Real kick in the balls if he could get pushed through.

Considering recent Supreme Court Justice standards, never having been a handmaid or a rapist trumps judicial career, IMO.
that dignifies the GQP’s base tactics. “Because they did it!” does not mean “now we get to do it”. I believe we need to lead by example in this instance.

(edit) on a reread, what you said is reasonable but not sufficient. Anita Hill’s teaching here suggests that if we are looking for defenders of freedom from religion, she may not be a top pick.

Hillary Clinton would be a strictly political fuck-you nomination. On the off-chance that she would be confirmed, her presence on the bench would focus right-wing resentment, likely energizing that base. Poor strategy. See my post yesterday to Oldmeduser on the topic.

I’d prefer nominees whose judicial record provides some insight into how they might rule as justices.
