They do work I had a couple good rounds with it, I would opt for a HPS if you can figure out how to keep the heat down, if that is not an issue go for a 400 or 600. I found mine for $120 & the hood for 25 I think on craigslist.
You will get better results from the HPS the LED's still need a couple more years for the prices to drop
