lets talk worms! Bins, castings, techniques etc

I got my 2nd bin made but didn’t find a single worm in the wild. I’ve got the bedding in and will buy some wigglers next week from the local bait shop.

    SOLO CUP CHALLENGE

@B_the_s , ha, I’ve got no illusions about winning anything unless there’s a “the poor guy tried” category. I’m just having fun and enjoying all the pics.

Just Got A Worm Bin Going

All seems to be going smooth and I’ve had to do very little in terms of work since making the bin. I’ve put in a little moist compost and banana peels.

Nice pics as always. My cats got into a tiff today because I was petting one and the other got jealous. My best plant showed to be a dang male today. If it weren’t for bad luck..........

    Hiding in the gardens

I tried on one plant and it snapped.(it was already 3ft) I figured it was dead but within 48 hrs, the thing stood right back up. But yea, training works from what I’ve seen. I myself don’t train, clip, defoliate, or anything. I’m lazy I guess.

    Hiding in the gardens

True. I had some peppers and tomatoes, sunflowers too, that died back last year while I had plants still finishing the flower.

@Diesel0889 , me and the worms are with you on keeping this thread going. You better be careful as those monster plants might roll your ass up and smoke you. :D

I’ve got a cheapo water PH meter that I’ve never removed from the box. I see these soil type meters that are supposed to give NPK readings as well but I don’t know how trustworthy they are.

I really want to get a soil meter but I know they are expensive.

You are selling yourself a bit short, we don’t need to be experts to share our experiences. I’m fairly new to the game myself and I’ve found several of your points helpful.

I thought a regular Earthbox held more that 1 ft of soil, I have the EB jr that holds 1 ft.

If I can muster the energy and will, I’m going to put another bin together today. It’s super hot down here in da south.

So far, I’ve been getting mine “in the wild” and at a local bait store. I’m lucky to have a place out back that holds a lot of worms and I started tossing scraps and such around. I’ve got a ditch that will produce worms with each dig and I get a lot of leaf mold from that area.
