    pH meter repair/clean.

My pH meter (pen-type, cheap £10 job) stopped working after a winter of being unused. Tried soaking the probes in distilled water but no use. A couple of hours in distilled white vinegar have bought it back to life though! Hope someone finds this useful.

    Air pump noise.

Used air pumps for years for cloning but the noise has always been a problem. I have dual output ones and I just discovered that if you cable-tie 2 of them together at 190 degrees, are quieter.

Flood/drain into air experiment. Root growth. Advice needed.

OK guys and gals. I have been experimenting a bit. This girl (I hope. fem seed) is about 3 weeks from germination. She is running in a 3 inch netpot in a flood drain with a deep-ish table of about 3 inches and a 60 litre res in a 2x4ft table with several other plants. The top of the table is...

    Water Distillers

OK guys, so I've often though about using RO water but never got round to it. However, today I just got a magahome water distiller for silly money (guy didn't know what it was and neither did I at the time). Anyhow it turns out it will turn out about a litre an hour of PURE distilled water...

    Re-growing scallions from the store.

Hi Peeps! Well, here's my story. I have a flood/drain hydroton system in the windowsill, mainly for peppers but I also have some basil, mint, lettuce and cilantro in there, grown from seed. 3 days ago, I bought some scallions for eating and left about 1cm+roots on the bottom and put them in...

    Magnets in your nute tank

Hi Peeps! I was googling making my own nutes today and came across this interesting idea. As we all know, Fe (iron) tends to oxidise (rust) and precipitate out of the solution, staining roots, pipes, pumps etc. UV sterilisers exacerbate the problem. However, there is a solution (no pun...

    Using Miracle-Grow Nutes.

OK peeps. Now summer is here, I'm now growing chillis, mint, lettuce and Basil in the windowsill in flood/drain with hydroton. The trouble is, it's a bit choking spending the cash on nutes. So, after a quick search, I've found a recipe that basically is... 1 teaspoon of miracle grow (Some sites...

    Basil (rusty leaves)

Ok peeps. I have some basil in my west facing windowsill in flood/drain hydroton. Floods 5 mins every 4 hours. EC 1.4, pH 5.8. Canna Aqua veg with added Mg. Transplanting seedlings from soil at 6-8 leaves. The leaves keep going 'rusty' and the plants are dieing. Everything else in there...

    Sticky Fingers!

I tried to post this last night but I was too wasted to even manage to turn the computer on! Anyway, here goes......... I went out to with the misses to visit friends last night. They don't smoke so a few beers was the order of the night. We got home late, she went to bed and I was sat alone...

    How to quit weed dependency.

I've noticed a big difference between my toking habits and that of my mates. I grow (occassionaly) for personal use and get a few zips each time then toke myself silly. My mates tend to buy grams. Thing is, they seem to NEED their few grams every weekend and stress out if they can't get it. I...

Be careful what advice you take.

OK peeps. Rollitup is becoming more popular by the day. One side-effect of this is that we have a few people trying to give 'advice' where they clearly don't have a clue, even about the basics. I guess what I am trying to say is, before taking advice on board, check the 'advisors' rating.

New seed sharing thread in UK?

OK all, SO this is my thoughts. Seeds are legal in the UK. I rarely grow any more and am thinking of running a 'seed-swap' bank so we can all stop having the urine extracted. I hope RIU won't mind as they are mainly USA based anyway. The only way I can think of doing this is with some kind of...

    Best Stoner food?

Well, the title said it all. I don't mean cooking with MJ, just what do you like when toked up? I like pizza because I just need to chuck it in the oven and take it out 15 mins later. Always tastes good after a smoke. Weirdly, I don't like it if I'm straight! However, I'm getting bored of it...

    New Philips Hue LED

Spotted this today. Thought you LED guys may be interested. It's an LED light that will change spectrums and can be controlled via wi-fi! I know it's of little use now but may be an insight into the future. http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/10/philips-hue-first-impressions-wi-fi-lighting-plus-fun/

    Wetting agent with Hydroton?

Was just thinking (OK, I'm stoned!) If a wetting agent were added to my res in a flood and drain, hydroton-filled table would this not make more frequent flood cycles needed, increase cation exchange and aeration? The only bad side I can see is if i used a household product and it all foamed...

Strains for High (or low) temps?

OK. A lot of us indoor growers often have temperature control problems so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for strains for high (or indeed low) temperatures? Let's stick to the point and not turn this into a thread about venting or air-con or anything. Oh, and feel free to add any...

Mixing nutes and pH adjusters in Hydro.

O.K. Peeps. So here's the story. I've grown in a few different environments/places in hydro and have never really thought about how I make my res fluids up. It just tends to go with whichever way is convenient at the time. As an example, I currently have a 250w mini-grow going with a 40L res...

    Round Leaves???? Help!

OK Peeps. So I opened my mini-grow cupboard today to find the new growth on my 2 big-bang plants has gone weird. The leaves are coming through single (not in 'fingers') and have little to no serrated edges. Both plants are showing this. They are clones from a plant that I grew out fine. All...

Found an air-raid shelter in the garden today!

I kid you not! OK, so here's the story. We (g/f and I) live in the top 2 stories (upstairs and loft conversion) of a big old house with the garden shared with the downstairs neighbour. I've never been able to have much to do with the garden as the old neighbours had a big old neglected dog...
