Hello!

I'm new to growing but wanted to do it properly. I did order some seeds but in the meantime I have some Sour Diesel bagseeds that I'm practicing with. I bought the Vivosun 2'x4' grow tent and the 600w Phlizon grow LED light. The medium is cheap soil from walmart + vermiculite with perlite already being part of the soil. I don't really know what I'm doing but wanted to share for what it's worth. Please let me know if there's anything I should be doing differently!

Miracle grow organic soil from HD works great, alternatively I love fox farm soil. Order an exhaust fan and carbon scrubber. Good luck, lots of great knowledge around here.

PS -water And let dry before watering again. Newbies always over water. Weed grows like a weed, first few weeks require limited interaction.

I have a 2x4 tent myself..with Philzon lights.. 600W --- but we are really only getting 108-110W So I bought a second philzon to cover the entire area for flower... it's still could use more light. After this grow I'm switching to spider farmer if this one I have in my 2x2 tent does my clones some justice... (Which it should.)

save ur self the hassle of buying fans to clip all over the place and grab a 28 inch+ oscillating tower fan... when ur plant gets bigger you can prop it up on a 2 gal bucket.. it helps push air around over and under the canopy.

Fan mentioned above.. about 40$
Fox Farm ocean forest to transplant into final pots 5-7 gal - 15-20 per 12 Quart bag.
Inline duct fan for exhaust $60-100
Ducting-$10
carbon filter 35-45
PH/TDS/EC meters - Prices vary
Plant nutrients - your preference. There are many brands out there. Fox Farm trio is what I use.. and only at 1/2 dose. The trio cost about $40

That stuff right there is what you will need immediately.

@dizzle - coincidentally, I got the miracle gro organic! I'm hoping I can get away with a month or so of veg before having to get the carbon filter.. or should I not wait? Ty for the watering tip

@hydro - Yeah, all my research pointed to the 600w not being enough for flowering so I'm hoping to get a second light by then. Do the double 600w do okay? The last important things I need are the inline fan, filter and ducting. Like I said I hope to add a second light but not sure if it's in the budget.

Also, not sure why my pictures aren't showing up on the original post but I'll try again.20200826_220053.jpg20200826_220110.jpg

Only one sprouted. I had a small Purple Punch growing outside so I figured I'd put that in the tent to try to force it back to veg since it's been outside for a bit but hasn't started to flower.20200830_123037.jpg

Not sure if my progress is update worth but here we are. As a reminder I only have one sprout, which is the Sour Diesel bagseed. I'm still waiting on my seeds that I ordered.

Anywho, I feel like my progress is slow but sure. The plant isn't huge but I've done some searching and I feel like I'm doing okay. I've just been watering when dry with non-ph'd tap water. I'm a bit worried already about a thrip issue since I see some spotting on one of the leaves but hopefully that won't be an issue. I think my plan is to clone this since only one sprouted and I'm still waiting on proper seeds. I'll get some Foxfarms veg to help in a week or so.

Still not sure wtf I'm doing but thank you for reading!

Here we are Sunday the 13th, which is actually day 14 for my (hopefully) girl. I have some yellow spots on one leaf but I'm not too sure what it is. My guess is calcium deficiency from what I've read but I have NO idea :) Thanks for looking!

I might be wrong but I get the feeling those might be burns from water droplets :eyesmoke:

I'll keep an eye out. If that's the case they'll be fine in no time! The water droplets are from having it covered because of crazy wildfires making humidity essentially 0%. Crazy times.

She's starting to get big, fast! Today is day 17 and she's looking great. I ordered a Spider Farmer sf1000 that should be here Sunday. I'm super excited for this next stage of growth. I'll go out this weekend and get some organic veg nutrients. Let me know if there's anything else I should be doing!

Temperatures average low 70s but I'm trying to get that to at least mid 70s.
Relative Humidity is low 50s but I'm also trying to get that up a bit. Fires on the West Coast are making that difficult.

The first 30-40 days my biggest plant was in the 83-87⁰ range and then I brought temps down to 70-77⁰ for both tents but if you keep your rh down your plant will do well in 80⁰ temps @ 30%rh(just an example)

It really depends, are you in a legal state or not? I find vegging has little to no smell and it's not until week 3-4 flower that I really have to worry about it. That being said I'm in a state with medical licenses.

I am in a legal state, but don't want my whole house to smell. That's what I was hoping! My wallet appreciates a month or 2 breather after the sf1000 purchase :)

I did the same thing...just bought crap as I could on my first grow...only net like 5 oz dry but that saved me enough to invest more into the rig and set up a second larger tent for flower.

I'd be happy with 5oz for my first try. Would it be worth it to let this grow a bit and take some clones to get more plants going for my first harvest? I do have feminized seeds on the way but I'm unsure when they'll get here.

I love growing from seed for basically any plant... if for no other reason than the symetrical growth and the strength of the taproot that you don't get from a clone. Once I go commercial I'll probably change that and start keeping mothers but for now it's always seed...

How big of a grow are you trying to do? 4-6 plants in a 4x4 can get crowded, you don't need many.

Yeah, im just in my basement so maybe seed is where it's at. I have a 4x2 so I'm hoping 3, maybe 4 plants max?

I'd figure 4 sq ft per plant (2x2) if you want to get them fairly large. really depends on the height... if you're keeping it low and doing a manifold/scrog I'd definitely cap it at two plants (personally) and then let them develop fully
