30 Gal pots ok for outdoor?

Ok i got my plants vegging indoor and they are all about 12-14 inches. I will be transplanting on may 7th to 30 gallon grow bags. If done properly can someone tell me how big my average plant will look like and or yield? Im growing some Chololate Thai. Thanks

That 30s will b good. But the bigger the better, in the ground ususally is the best. Y not just start 1 thread 4 ur grow and ask questions, share ur thoughts and pics. U don't need to start a new thread for everything!:wall:

People are always asking to guess yeild, but there are so many variables that come into play its almost impossible. In previous years I have used plastic 55 gallon barrels, cut in half, creating two pots per barrel that are approximately 25 gallons each. The biggest plants reached about 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide, pulling about 1/2 pound and up to 3/4 pound on the biggest. But like I said its impossible to guess yeild because there are so many variables, If you are that concerned about pot size, why not simply plant in the ground?

depends on the strain and medium- LA confidential in a 25 gallon pot with 50/50 soil and perlite got me about a 1/4 lb, same as 1 plant last year. the nugs seemed fatter on the one that grew in potting soil.

Go bigger !! The first year I grew outdoors I used 30 gallon smart pots and got bout a pound per plant, now I use 100 gallon smart pots and ill pull 3-6 lbs per plant. Plus even on the hottest days my plants don't stress, in the 30 gallons they would, and you might want to keep the plants in till the last week of may, I have put plants outside in the first week of may , and the plants that I keep under light indoors( 1000wt bulbs) till last week of may are way bigger and stronger.

A 7ft tall 5 ft. wide plant pulls more than a half pound. Are you in northern Cali stonerman? and Bro Johnson your right on. Thanks
I am no wheres close to California, I am way up in Canada. 1/2 pound to 3/4 pounds off a 7 foot plant is pretty decent up here. I usually cannot wait for buds to reach full maturity, usually harvesting at approx 7 weeks flowering due to mold issues and hunters. Strain also comes into play when judging yeild, a pure indica with a high bud to leaf ratio will produce some very thick, dense heavy buds, as opposed to more sativa dominant strains developing more of an "airy" fluffy bud. In the past, I have had much bigger plants with bigger harvests, but I was referring to plants that I had grown in 25 gallon half barrels, because it was in relation to the thread. Ive pulled 23 ounces off a single plant that was grown in the ground that was about 9 feet tall and 8 feet wide, truly a marijuana bush, but of course that required months of veg time before it was put outdoors.

Bigger is better....but if someone is only getting 1/2 lb off 25 gallon 7 foot tall plants you should rethink your methods
A lot of people would be very satisfied with pulling a half pound off a 7 foot plant. Need I remind you that I grow guerrilla style, these plants being in the middle of the forest, only being checked on once a week to water. Also I was talking about particular plants in relation to this thread, in my experience, from 25 gallon half barrels, that is what I yielded, of course I have have bigger plants with bigger yields, but those were in the ground, not in pots. Pots dry out very quickly, especially on a sunny day, its very easy to go grab your garden hose and water every day, but if your carrying water by buckets, its not worth my time to go trek through the woods for hours every day to water. So what exactly are your methods to pull much more than 3/4 pounds from a 7 foot plant in a 25 gallon pot, Id certainly like to hear them, got any specific nutrients you like to use for veg and flowering or certain training methods?

Redman said it perfect. I did 30gal geo's last year and wished I went 60+ specially if using geo/smart/fabric pots. It is hard to believe that it uses all that room, but they do and yield bigger.

I wonder what the point of diminishing returns is with amount of soil. Some say 1oz/gal but how much soil does that stay true for? Guys up here use 400gals and get crazy numbers, but not 1oz/gal at that point.

There are so many variables with yields. How many hours of direct sunlight per day, nutrients and water, how much stress the plant endures. This year I'm also going above ground and doing this... https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=201016

I'm doing a controlled grow in an enclosure because of my thieving neighbors and two plants I'm going to throw out in a wetland area I have. Both areas get virtually sunrise to sunset sun. I'm leaving my DYI airpots bottomless and amending the soil under the pot. With the DYI method I'm using I can make my pots as big as I want and will only be limited by how much I want to spend on Pro-Mix. I'm planting on somewhere around 75-100 gallons.

Yeah I hear ya, also what soil are they using, I've just heard you can get up to 0z per gal with all the right amendments n such.

Dont get me wrong but dont most green in Cali anyways gets a lb per plant in at least n 30 gal pots in a outdoor grow and of course it would have to be pristine weather conditions.. Super soil ftw!

Yeah, If you have some knowledge of gardening in general with a NorCal climate your going to get better yields than most people. I went directly in the ground last year and amended the soil in holes that were 2 feet wide by 1 foot deep (which isn't nearly big enough) my roots outgrew those holes and I could pretty much tell when that happened, you could see the growth slow. I still ended up with 4 dry pounds from 6 plants.

I'm from Florida and I suppose we have better sun then others but seriously guys throw 5 gallon buckets here with crap soil and time release nutes and more or less walk away and get 1/2lb + and most strains here are haze .

If your using 24 gallon + and not getting a solid 1 pound+ idk what the hell is going on

And I've never heard oz per gallon I've always heard gallon per foot

Alright check this out, I went to my buddys house where he did 200 plants in 200 gallon grow/ fabric bags and he gave me everything on his property for my free use. I grabbed tons of fencing, nutrients, soaker hoses, etc. I grabbed a couple truckloads of his last years ocean forest soil out of the 200 gallon bags, My main question is can i reuse this amazing soil and just flush the old nutes out before i transplant or is it no good? Im hoping to pull over 10 truckloads out of there saving me thoussands in soil. Let me know. Thanks.

Pot size only matters if the plant you are growing, roots actually fill up the pot. You could put a plant in a hundred gallon container, it does not mean all plants in hundred gallon containers will yeild pounds and pounds, it depends on how much of the plants root system has actually grown throughout the pot. Of course I know, I am not down in california, in the nice warm states, I am way up in canada with a short growing season, achieving a pound plant around here is something to be proud of.

If you start those plants at 18/6 indoors they are going to start flowering as soon as you set them outside. You're going to waste a lot of dirt and a lot of nut's..
