? A fabric pot that is BIFL ?

buy it for life fabric pots? had some grey ones (can't remember brand) that stained, are still usable but ugly as shit now.

So which fabric pot to look for that can be reused to eternity, BIFL-ish I hope, (I know I know disease and pest transfer through seasons will require some kind of attention.)

Why not simply clean the ones you have?
Why the concern with aesthetics for a pot?
I've used the same fabric smartpots for years, cleaning and disinfecting between runs.

Rain Science bags seem to be pretty tough

I tried to soak and wash them, its like crazy tannin staining or salts, I'm going to keep using them in places that aesthetics don't matter to me, but for the new fabric pots coming into my life, this is the advice I seek angry bill.

That don’t look like normal stains from synthetic nutes. Looks like it was used to transport an organ.

The staining happened slowly and some was def nutrients, but this bioactive bacterial soil activator powder I mixed with molasses in REASONABLE quantities really got in the fabric and is permanent. It's felt like but more plastic than a true wool, and it advertised that it would prune roots preventing root binding, but yeah I want to try something more BIFL.


This stuff, the finest powder I've ever encountered, and by that I mean like finer than the finest dust, like a liquid solid, weird for sure, but i guess its little bacterial colonies. Anyways, I KNOW there are pots out there that wont stain like this, the bacteria in the product are in normal soil and I also rock happy frog, with local soil, compost, and worm tea. I think I will check out rain science.

I was joking about the organ, but usually my pots have a sandy looking build up around the bottom. I drop mine in a tote of hot water & dawn to soak overnight, then I toss them in the washer & let air dry. They come out pretty clean, but then again I’ve only been using them for a year or so. As long as it’s only a stain, and it’s not hindering oxygen availability.. I don’t see an issue. Dark pots may be more appealing to the eye for reuse.

I’ve thought about transplanting straight into a bag of soil before. Might try it outdoors this year.

I know this is the internet and its full of wild crazy morons, but I will agree with you that it appears that I have not tried to wash this bag.

It's my own dumb fault for not taking a video of the entire multiday washing attempt before asking a question on this site full of people with trust issues.

But, I made a really good attempt, and by the feel of the colored parts while trying to wash them, it really is quite permanent aside from perhaps bleaching them.

And why you guys are so anti-aesthetic is beyond me, I dunno cause they're where I live? I live with them? Goddam this site awesome

I bought a bunch of cheap ones on Amazon a few years ago in all different sizes. The 5 for $10 etc... brands. Some made out of different material. They all work the same. I still have all of them some new and unused. The only thing I do is beat them around to get the loose stuff of and then either spray them outside with the hose or in the winter I use a sprayer in the utility sink. Some look like crap. I don't care. The looks don't have any effect on what they're intended for. I don't worry about things that don't matter.

$2 a pot. That's a damn good deal. They want $12 for the same size Smart Pot brand. I don't know why anyone would pay that. For the price of 2 Smart Pots you get 12 of that brand which work just as good as a Smart Pot.
