AK glass... where to shop?

I'm looking for a locally-blown coffee table piece, probably just a larger pipe. I typically just go to Really Neat Stuff behind Fairtrade Organic Gardens and they're good folks but I'm interested in seeing other options.

Anyone got any recommendations for ANC locations to score cool AK-blown glass?

Thanks FC, I'll check it out
kinda seedy even for downtown.... supposedly "Tom-e" takes custom orders, but he says it'll be at least 2 weeks out.... Not that it bothers me but his two dogs who are obviously nice, wander nearly free... They blow glass behind the bed sheets stapled to the ceiling (I could hear the torch going), and if you ask nicely, he'll show you tomorrows batch in the annealing oven!
I'd give it 4.5/10... I cant say I'm fond of Tom's "crooked" style... He seems like he may have had too much of something (drugs that aren't pot) some time in the near past, like he may not be "playing with a full pack of cards"
Its worth checking out though!

Piece of Mind on Benson/Artic is a solid place to shop.... Great selection, and pretty knowledgeable staff, Andrew the guy who "manages" is a "yes-man" sales type, he's relaxed and all smiles when it comes to talking glass... They carry TONS of hand blown AK glass and lots from their Mother shop in Washington state. I had the privilege of visiting P.O.M. in Spokane Valley, I'll say this: they are DAMN proud of their local glass.... Piece of Mind AK is no different, They are proud of their glass. This translates to 2 things, inflated prices and beautiful pieces! Something that would cost $25-$30 from another shop could be in the $40 range, but they treat their regulars right. I can't remember the last time they charged me sticker price!
If you got some time to burn, go in take a peek, and tell them that you want to see the high quality stuff. Ask lots of questions, and haggle the price! I think you'll like 'em!

I'll give ya a review of Popeye's Emporium when I got some time... I Really like them over everyone....
Thanks, very cool of you to take the time @FrozenChozen I'll check out the gear at Piece of Mind. bongsmilie

Ever finish that JTR? How long did you flower her? How bout her sugary/hermie daughter?:weed:

I'm curious how that JTR compares when grown in hydro, and if you ever finished that other plant. You said such nice things about it re: terps part way through flower and I haven't heard anything since.

I just moved out of a house and into an apt and don't know if I'll want to flower anything here damnit. :-( I got plenty of herbs to make it through but I'll definitely miss growing. I still have a cut of that JTR under a CFL but as for now plan to just keep her in veg. The neighbors are so close I doubt a flower cycle is in the cards...:joint:

Well a buddy got me a piece that fits the bill, perhaps not a showcase pipe but its hefty and fits in my hand nice. I've got a fused wrist and a semi f'd thumb so some pipes, and more so carbs, work better in my hand than others. This one has a golfball size bowl to hold on to so it fits perfect. Smokes real nice too.

I don't know its origins but doubt its AK-blown so I want to keep looking for something local, sounds like Piece of Mind is perfect. Been working like a fool and haven't stopped in yet but I will next week.

I had to nuke most of my house... f'ing devil mites came in with a buddy that assured me he didn't have 'em (turns out he was wrong!) Anyway I yanked EVERYTHING that was here bombed, cleaned and am starting again.... Turns out the lil fuckers really liked the JTR; that's where the majority were and the girl that came from my buddy was right next to it. Long story short I no longer posses JTR. The sour jack hermied incredibly bad about 4 weeks in and I couldn't fight nanners anymore. (S)he got made into some very "piney" BHO... Didn't end up tasting anything like it smelled; kinda disappointing...
I still wouldn't mind running some of your JTR, or burning some with ya sometime!

I have not been to any of the shops around anchorage in about a year, but the ones I hit were WAY overpriced, or were just selling junk.
Dankstop, dablab, or aqua lab is where I order everything from. Whenever I want a new piece I check those three and one will have a great deal going.

I am all about supporting the local small business, until they are just taking advantage of the situation. My small town is full of F'ing crooks, so I order everything rather than pay top dollar for shitty quality and zero customer service. But, I imagine with Feb coming up there will be many more choices in the future for local glass.

Frozen,
Dumb question .....I have been growing indoors for the last eight or so years and have never even seen a spider mite or thrips, where the hell do they come from?. Do we have them naturally in AK? or are they in contaminated soil like fungus gnats then spread that way? I have been wondering about this for a while. Hahha , I guess I was thinking about them in terms of fleas ticks , as in not in most of AK. (yes I know there are some).

The place off Benson - by La Bodega...I can't remember the name now - The Look or whatever.... They stock about 4-5 local artists glass pieces. I got one from them for 30 bucks or so, and have been super pleased with it, it became my go to piece.

If in Wasilla - there is no better than place than The Shak, IMO. Dude is in an enclosed room blowing glass, and they have some incredible pieces, talking into the 300-500 dollar range even.

Sorry drifter, Ive been busy and haven't set this thread to watch.... Thrips we do have here naturally, and some forms of spider mites... Both just thrive in indoor conditions and easily become IMMUNE to pesticides.... THE FUCKIN DEVIL INCARNATE!
