I used a 5lb kit and injected spores but see nothing yet. How long does one need to wait for the white growth? think its been a week now maybe more. I cant see anything happening yet. Is this normal? I even injected 5ml worth to make sure I put enuf in. I read you only need about 2.

That’s a lot of sub so it will take a while. 1-3ml per lb
Ok so it seems like my injection would be on the low end? I guess if I used the whole syringe I would be right in the middle for 5lbs of sub. Is it possible to add more now or is it too late in the process? I check the bag about every 2 days for growth. I have it sitting in a closet inside a shoe box. I wasn't sure if the size of the box had anything to do with it or not either.

So does anyone think adding more is a bad idea? Too late? Its been about 2 weeks now and I still dont see any white growth. Have plenty of spores so not a prob. Was kinda worried they would go bad before I used the rest. It says on the syringe that they stay well for 30 days refrigerated? If thats the case I better start making more. I have 45 mls left.

You crammed 5lbs in a shoe box? How did you sterilize it prior

Its in a bag. It comes sterilized. Has an injection port for spores to be introduced. I moved it to a cooler spot in the house. It was in the closet in my tent room. The bag is standing up with the shoe box on end.

Alright well fuck it. I'm just gonna add 5 more mls to the bag. Its been 2 weeks and there isn't anything growing in the bag. Either the spores aren't real or I'm not doing it right.

I don’t trust the “sterilized bags” I always sterilized to be safe

Its about 70-72. I moved it back. I think the difference in temp between locations was negligible.
I'm no pro on this by any means, just been researching myself. You may want to look into what a good inoculation temp is. 78°-84° seems to come up a lot for a number however some say 80° should be the high.

I was afraid of that. I just put the box inside a spare tent with a portable heater. I set the temp for 78 and zipped it shut. I have another meter in there to double check the temp as well. Hopefully this speeds it along. If I dont see much after about a week I'll bump the temp to 80. Thank you for the advice!

As long as you don't see any contam in your bag, I would think the extra 5ml you squirted in should help things along. The shoebox idea is probably a good one just to help contain some heat from within your bag. Let us know how you make out.

I've been checking for any growth that isnt white. None so far. Hopefully it helps with the extra 5mls. If all goes well I bring back good news and prep for more fun. 40mls to experiment with.

Wow I thot I was waiting a long time for colonization. My cake is almost entirely white now tho. I posted using a heater on the 8th and since then its been growing slowly ED. I turned it all the way up but my tent gets about 80. Been in there ever since. I think I'm about ready for the fruiting chamber.

I'm using a black tote from HD and have strapped a 23w T5 under the lid. Gonna use some perlite with water on the bottom. Lay down a sheet of foil then mist the walls and cake with water. Remove top about 2-3 times a day to waft fresh air into the bin. Remist if needed. Set the timer for 12/12 and hope for the best. Do I need a hygrometer in the tote? Anything I'm forgetting?

You don’t need a hygrometer in the tub. If there’s condensation on the walls you’re good. Do you have a way of checking surface temps?

When I pop the lid off I can use a infrared thermometer. Should I be checking the surface temp of the cake?
