Another Lighting Question, About configuration

I have a hood made up for my box, 30" long. IN it are 2 100w HPS, and 1 175w MH in the middle. they are all hanging vertically.

My question is, Should I move the light so they attach to the side and are in a horizontal position. I was thinking I could mount the 100w HPS to side panels I have for the hood, so the tips would be pointing towards the middle. The 175mh would be mounted in a duct flange where the air is pulled from. but would be in a horizontal position also.

Making a new hood is no big deal. just wondering what will be the best usage of the bulbs i have.

The whole box can be seen in my journal The $0 Box. https://www.rollitup.org/blogs/blog18325-0-box.html

Yes in your set up it looks like horizontal would work much better for you.
The bulbs put basically no light out the end, almost all of it out the side, so your light is just going to the sides then being reflected back, if you turn them horizontal you will get at least half (ok actually closer to a quarter but we are splitting hairs) of the bulb facing the plants, and the other half reflecting back at the plants.

Damn, pretty much what I was thinkn, Im hoping to be able to find better bulbs for the next grow, these are just what was in the lights. But it is really hard finding good bulbs in small wattages.

Thanx for lookin man...

Gotta spread some love around b4 I can get back to you :)

No big deal, i will never have a lot of rep i realized, i prefer to help the newbs who need help, so when i get rep it doesn't count for much.
Any questions hit me up, and if it makes you feel better i am using 2 1000 watt street bulbs atm......

I was looking at a CMH conversion bulb for the 175MH, but for the price I cant justify spending the money on that small a wattage. Id have to step up to at least a 400w but would prefer a 600.

So for now gotta make do with what ya got i guess...

exactly, i have considered the cmh for a while, but converting to 400's i just don't know about, if they come out with 600's i will consider it.

I thought they make them up to 600, but not 1000, something about bulb life is to short in the 1000's to be marketable...

And for the price, they seem to be the best overall color spectrum from a HID light. And if i needed a 1000 watter, id probly go with 2 600's anyway, just for the better spread.

thats why i used 2 1000s!
I have never seen any cmh bigger than 400, pretty sure that is what i have read too is 400 is the biggest, and you need a hps magnetic ballast to run it.

mmm wish I needed 2 1000's. Yeah its been a little while since I looked up the CMH bulbs and my HPS's are only 100w, so deff not worth switchn yet.

I was under the impression that lowering the light in a power-vented hood with the bulb vertical
with the ladies standing in a circle was the way to go. I also have reflective insulated foam board
surrounding them to reflect light to the other side of the ladies so i dont have to turn my pots so often

but i can see his limited space might require a horizontal position,
