Anyone else have this problem with Spiderfarmer Lights?

I don’t get the point. Everybody knows they’re from China
That's not the point, so yes, correct.

If he's concerned about shoddy & dangerous construction, both lights are made in the same factory of similar if not identical parts by the same hands which would make me just as nervous about both brands.

If he's concerned that the service as provided by the company is sub-par, buying another light that's made and supported by the same company is also probably contradictory.

I'm not an anti-chinese line in the sand person...you can get really expensive well made products from china or poor ones. You really get what you pay for.

Anyone can have the same lights made at the same factories but with different branding with a few minor changes. Half the brands for every kind of product roll of the same assembly lines. All they do is put a different label on it. It's been that way for a long time and it isn't just goods made in China. Years ago I word at a food processor. They made peanut butter, pancake syrup, and other things. The exact same syrup and peanut butter was bottled and jarred for multiple competing grocery stores. All we did is change the labels and maybe sometimes the bottles. But it was the exact same product being sold under multiple brands. The same thing is going on in China at their mega factories.

True. These also have the same warehouse locations across the world, so Mars & SF are the same company. Again, if he doesn't wish to give money to this company because of how they've interacted or safety concerns, moving from SF to Mars is not moving at all. They're not even two companies that contract build in the same factory...they're the same company.

I mean I believe you. But how do you know for sure? What’s your source? Your pretty confident. did you used to work for them?
or the owner was just like “yeah I own both”.

I've got 2 of the first generation spider farmer 1000's and knock on wood but I haven't had any issues, they are great for a smaller setup. They are easy to hang, generate very little heat and are bright as hell! Growing is a hobby for many folks and like many hobbies it might not be something the person sticks to so why should they spend money they don't necessarily have buying a top tier light. Don't get me wrong I like nothing more than upgrading stuff but for the beginner just starting out the import lights are fine. Plenty of lighting companies have issues come up from time to time. Ever look at a companies website and see things listed under "refurbished" and being sold at a discount?

I do not work in the lighting industry.

Beyond the fact that both Mars and Spider Farmer list the same warehouse locations (including some of the same spelling errors on those pages, links already provided), The track back to the same place of manufacture, there are also statements like this easily found online:

...in which they talk about being Spider Farmer and also selling "our" Mars brand lighting.

Again, I have no trouble with people buying either if they like, but if the OP is trying not to support or buy from SF or is concerned about quality/safety issues, buying Mars is buying Spider Farmer two brand names by the same company.

Feathers were ruffled when I suggested the same, and provided some documentation on my 'hot take' on the matter. Though I wasn't casting aspersions upon either brand, just noting that were someone trying to not support one of them, purchasing the other is not productive to that pursuit.

i already had my assumptions prior because of material and cost of unit and even modeling
just nice to see first hand proof before jumping the wagon. Plus I wanted to see if they were tryin to maybe hide the fact they are the same company

Not surprising as many companies have sub branding … its just most of this info i got from non descrip links. I too got a “ tester “ not SF 4000 but a smaller panel - still putting along. And if it took a shit then it would have influenced whether i pursued any more business .

I’m not knocking cheaper alternatives for growers … its just the after purchase or honorable warranty and procedures to make right that actually speaks louder than product.

Always thought “ glue masking “ was kinda strange …. Any other boards I run are free of this . I am thinking it would hold heat , but cannot not prove it. Even tho it’s described as protection against moisture or “ overspray “. Never once do I spray any liquids on my leds …. So not sure if this an actual problem in grows.

I've just been kickin back and chillin, since that response from spiderfarmer. Just kinda in AWE of their response to the issue of melting glue on there light. It just seemed Really Disrespectful for @Spiderfarmerled to say:

"Please check the following feedback from our engineer:
To offer the waterproof of the light, each panel of the led will have a layer of glue, the yellow marks is on the glue. You can check.
For the reason, might be the nutrition you use."

It's kinda difficult to believe they actually said that! And at the same time expected me to believe that Bullshit. What's Wrong with this world, nowadays?? :(

At least you didn’t lose any cash per se on it. You would have probably had to eat a shipping cost .
I would pull boards for shit and giggles and see if you notice anything. Maybe you can salvage the driver / dimmer and source led strips
and DIY something.

If I remember right they offered JohnnyNobody $20 for the same issue on his sf4000 which is insulting as well.
