hi there! id like to start a discussion about light leaks. all about them, effects on plants, how to stop them, strength of light that could disrupt plants and also duration.

first off I know I have light leaks as my closet I use for flowering is no where near 100% light tight. but I always assumed my big problem with that would be hermaphroditic tendencies. ive had probly 30 plants go through this closet and only pulled 3 male flowers and have haf no seeds.

I feel like it hurts my yield more than anything and puts stress on the plant, therefore making it hharder for the plantto deal with other stressors.

id love to hear any exexperience or info about yours or others light leaks.

The trick is to close yourself inside while its dark.I flower Indica under some strange conditions too. There is always light within sight of these plants but none touches leaf or bud and they flower hard.....Check for clocks these and some timers have that fkn red led.A red dot will keep them in veg...

Hermies are guna be your biggest issue with the light leaks if you know you have them .....fix them as soon as you can to avoid problems

Ummb I keep my outdoor plants away from cars ,porch lights ,street lights ......if there's lights on your outdoor grow then you've got it in the wrong spot .......that's a big part of picking a grow site IMO keeping it dark at night ...........and outdoor growing is a totally different animal compared to indoor growing the only thing they have in common is what's being grown ......

I know I could find all my light leaksbut so far it hasnt been a hugedeal to me. iI havent really had a problem with hhermaphrodites. my biggest problem is nutenimbalances really so thats what I'm focusing on currently. I may adress the light leak issue later on.

I have also done a lor of thinking about outdoor plants and light from the moon and such. I feel like they ger used to it afternanwhile. indoor we rry to avoid that though. I wonder if a small light (like tiny ) on at night all through veg and into flower would be any differemt than complete darkness all through vrg/flower. my room isnt controlled enough to test this yet though..

My example is that plants outdoors are exposed to those lights wether you want them to or not. I want to say hermies are a genetic predisposition. Not so much because a small light leak

I can see your point .........I just think when mimicking Mother Nature there's no need to have any light leaks whatsoever .........as far as Hermies sure genetics is always a possibility but I also think stressing the hell out of one especially in the dark cycle can cause the problem also ................but I have nights in my outdoor gardens where the moon is so bright I can easily walk through my girls no problem .......so Idk the moon thing is a good point ima look into that

Red led power lights do not keep my plants from flowering, i have two power bars and a heater and they flower fine and never a herm but I have had a few outdoor plants throw out the odd seed. I also used to run a seperate veg and flower room with a curtain that was not really 100% light proof and still no issues. Perhaps I was lucky lol.

I also feel like a lot of hermaphrodite flowers get falsely blamed on minor light leaks. I feel to have stress enough to throw staminate flowers there is most likely a combination of different stressors.

in my opinion a light leak probably wouldn't help the other issues in any way and may even possibly exacerbate the problem. but I know for a fact that my plants are stressed to the point where they look real messed up by mid flower even sometimes. and I still dont get stamens on my flowers. so a portion of it must also be from unstable genetics too. sorry for any typos I cant see what I'm tyoing or delete without messing shit up on this pos phone.
