Any other minimalist shoe warriors out there?
I used to run distance a lot. Pounding the pavement with my fresh ‘running shoes’. I’m not sure how many aches and pains I caused myself learning how not to do it.
Strong opinion here but running on pavement is bad for you. It wrecks the bod. I don’t care how often you replace your shoes.
The solution? Barefoot style shoes and running on grass or trails. The softer the better. I like the ‘trail’ versions of the shoes that are a little more rugged because they last forever.
There are probably tons of styles and brands. I have my favorite but I don’t work for any company and don’t want to appear like I’m here to sell anything. I’m not. I want to free your life and help you heal your body with its own powers.
Running or walking with no extra support forces you to be light on your feet. Puts you in contact with the ground in a way that you are forced to adjust accordingly. It becomes second nature to use more muscle and less bone striking so you heal and become stronger.
There is an adjustment period. I don’t remember how long though I’ve been running and training with this style of shoes for over 10 years and here’s the real kicker.
I’m still using the same pair, the first pair I got. They have thousands of miles on them and thousands of pounds lifted over years of abuse. They are still comfy but I’m wearing through the sole now. I can still wear them!
I have a few pairs so they can get wet and I just switch them.
