there are nation wide brands, but most areas will have a lot of different brands, made in the area. just try to pick one without too much extra shit added. makes it hard to control what the plants are getting, and when they're getting it. i like to be in control, not some guy at a factory that has no idea what i'm going to be growing in it.
perlite isn't necessary, but it will help a lot. it helps with aeration of the soil, and good drainage.
if you use one with time release nutes, you have to keep an eye on your plants. the nutes will only carry it so far, you'll have to watch for when it starts to look underfed and ramp up your feeding then. another reason i don't like time release nutes, just another thing to keep track of
