just some quick questions: how long do spore syringes last if properly stored? how do you properly store them? and any suggestions for a first time growers strain? i was just thinking golden teacher.

Don't know how long they last.....was wondering myself as I have 4 syringes that are 9 months old. The best way to store is in a cool dark place. I don't know if a refrigerator is too cold so I keep mine in the basement......around 50 degrees F. Texas and Treasure Coast strains were fairly fast growers and I never had a problem. Seemed resistant because I was not 100% sterile in the fruiting stage. It's not as hard as some might think, just be very sterile when making and injecting the jars. Also, if you do not have the right kind of candle for sterilizing the tips of the syringes between each injection a shot glass turned upside down with a little bit of isopropyl on top works perfectly. Keeps a small flame. Just make sure you don't spill it everywhere and then light it.

By the way. HILARIOUS Avatar for someone named Creeystevie.

It is very strain dependant, also "last" is not the correct way to think of it, with time more and more of the spores become non-viable, but there is proabably always the chance of enough survivng to make a spore last pretty long. Haveing said that I wouldn't hang on to it forever, probably a year or so, it is much better to store slants or dry spore prints for longer term.

by far the far the largest mushrooms I have grown have come from Be Phang Ka from http://www.ralphstersspores.com

Syringes will last for a while, maybe a year. Store them in the fridge
Damn they are even cheaper than spores 101. Thanks a lot! I have a question. I am going to order a kit online that uses filter patch bags with rye grain. Do you know how many cc to inject into the filter patch bag and do you need 1 filter patch bag of grain per tub or will 1 bag be enough for 2 tubs? Thanks bro!

thanks people. i am going to slowly gather materials and eventually do this. hopefully within a year of getting the spores lol. im kinda slow moving when it comes to doing these things. and as for the strains. you guys suggested texas, treasure coast, and be phang ka. any other? im not really looking for most yeild maybe some strong ones would be nice. but im more doing this for fun. i have a job and just like to do this stuff in my spare time.

WHEN I received my strain of golden teachers the "terms and conditions sticker" said they are good for up to 1 yr. if stored properly!

hey specimen. you seem very knowledgeable on certain things. are boomers like weed (strainwise) i,e, certain strains easier for beginers etc etc... im just tottally overwhelmed when it comes to picking a strain.

Indeed some are harder to grow than others, but most of the cubensis strains are pretty generic.

hey guys. don't know if this is the right place to ask or not, but i was wondering if i would be able to get away with fruiting in a glass aquarium instead of a plastic rubbermaid bin? i'm sure i'd have to take a few extra steps as far as airation, but what do y'all think? and again sorry for asking if this is a the wrong place :0

i dont mind you asked here. why not make this a universal boomer faq. better than making a million threads imo. but i have no experience as far as this goes so i cant help you but im sure a few others could.

thanks anc. im going to browse a few more days before i make my decision.

The strain is not so much a concern as cannabis has many contributing factors that make other exotic strains more prone for failure! i'll update some of them soon... pressed for time at the moment!

I have grown over 25 strains to date. All I have grown I've used the same technique and medium, it's not like herb where some are more tolerant and others are not. Some strains however are more resistant to contamination. Of course there is a difference in size and density.
I use grain jars then spawn to bulk in a monotub.

I haven't grown those, but they look good. I am partial to Ba Phang Ka or Thai strains in general they seem to grow larger and be resistant to contams. I've been working with it for a while, one of the BPK came out to 13 grams dry!I also enjoyed Malabar and Penis Envy 6, SG 30. Argentinas are cool, they grow small to medium but are solid, I got one that was 2 inches long but weighed 2.7 grams.

After the first flush you can clone the largest mushroom using a Liquid Culture and your resulting mushrooms will be around that size.

well cloning shrooms is a little out of my league as of now. im not even 100% sure what rhi....whatever is or mycilium (sp?)

and as for a 13 gram boomer!!!! thats huge. seems a little excessive no? id rather have smaller ones of average size. im looking for something that is potent and good for beginers

It sounds like you need to read up at the shroomery.

Yeah a 13 gram boomer is a bit much, but when you're going for weight size matters.

There is no "beginner" mushroom one strain of cubensis isn't harder to grow than the other.

Rhi I think is relative humidity, it's spelled mycellium.

Cloning a mushroom is very simple. Take your used syringe and fill it with water, leaving 2 ml of air it it. Put it in a pressure cooker with the needle pointing up and pressure cook for 30 minutes.

There are many recipes to make an LC. I just put 1 packet of sugar in the raw in a cup of water in a mason jar and Pressure cook for 20 minutes.

Let everything cool.

Take the mushroom you want to clone and wipe the bottom 1/3 of the stem with a paper towel with rubbing alcohol.

I take a shot glass turn it upside down and put a bit of rubbing alcoho in there and light it on fire. Heat up the top 2/3 of the needle until it is red hot. Then fold an alcohol soaked paper towel over the needle and it will cool in 5 or so seconds.

Plunge the needle of the syringe thru the stem wiped with alcohol then stick the syringe thru a filter on top of the mason jar and push the plunger down. Some tisue from the stem will be pushed into the LC. Repeat this making sure to flame the needle until it is red hot with a flame from an alcohol burner after each time.

In a week there will be a cloud of mycellium growing in the LC. Sterilize the syringe again and suck out the mycellium. You can now inject it into a Brown rice flower cake or some grain then spawn it.

that doesnt sound too hard at all. and yes i do plan on reading up a lot. im just in the long slow process of gathering materials now. probably wont give this a go til sometime in the summer. maybe fall. but relative humidity isnt what i am thinking of... let me find it... ah this is what i was thinking of... rhizomorphic
