Can I use 1000w hps in a 4x2?

Hey @sunandsky. I found this thread because I'm in a similar situation. I inherited a 1000W HID light from a friend and put it in my 2X4 tent. I'm running it at 50% and temps are okay, around 80F. The problem I'm having is with low humidity, 10%RH. I have my exhaust fan running at medium with two passive intakes to keep things cool. I suspect that is sucking out all the moisture from my humidifier.

Did you have a similar issue? If so, how did you deal with it? I imagine you were running an exhaust fan as well to cool your tent.

Personally I don't worry about humidity being low, especially in flowering. I didn't have this problem. I actually have a dehumidifier in there so I can keep my rh around 25-30% during late flower. My tents are naturally at 50 this time of year. is it bad to have low rh? I feel like was long as you water them well it should be fine. Not sure though, never had to deal with that issue before

I'm still a noob, so I'm not really sure how big of a concern it is. I'm just trying to get within the ranges I see posted in various online guides and forums. I imagine it's better to have humidity that's too low than too high. I guess I'll just ride it out and see what happens.

If you're in a 4x2 looking to upgrade from a 400w hid(which is plenty bright but the light spreads not ideal for those dimensions)just go led. There's a point of diminishing returns with space and light. Not to mention running costs(1000w about $30-$40/month extra on electric)

If it has to be a 1000w HPS then you should have a 4x4 tent... if it has to be a 2x4 tent then I would just suck it up and buy an led fixture. A decent light for a 2x4 will only cost $150-$200. If you can't afford that then you shouldn't be growing weed in the first place.

Sorry... maybe I was a little off on price. A mars hydro tsl 2000 would be perfect for a 2x4 and it can be had online for $220 maybe less if you look around. It doesn't look like much but it's more than adequate for a 2x4. And it will get the job done. Screenshot_20210803-225714_Google.jpg
