“Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States and increasingly used as an alternative treatment for chronic pain, but there is limited data that shows how it affects patient outcomes after surgery,” said Elyad Ekrami,

My state, doctors, and elected President disagree on your usage of the term illicit. It isn't 100% yet, but very soon it will no longer be federally illicit anywhere in the U.S.. Way to go Doc, show your bias in the very first sentence.

Well, nobody's gonna like this, but i noticed decades ago that
cannabis would kinda make little pains or injuries that I had feel
worse. It seemed that it'd throb more or something. But that's just me.
It still needs to be federally legalized, and research allowed. I really
think all the CBD stuff is hype. I'm sure ppl here swear by it, but I
don't think CBD really relieves pain like all the pro cannabis studies
say it does. But again, how about some fed funded research on it
at universities and hospitals, that'd really answer the question.

Depends on the surgery IMO, but generally speaking cannabis does NOT relieve pain the way people say it does.

"I smoke a J and my back feels better', NO THE FUCK IT DOESN'T. No fucking way that a joint does anything for compressed or degenerated discs and sure as shit doesn't do anything for nerve pain. General inflammation, maybe, and just a wee bit.

More than anything, smoking cannabis is a "mental vacation" from all the shit my body and brain has to deal with on a daily basis, but not on any level of chronic or severe pain.

I can't speak on RSO or other "extracts", I am only speaking in regards to flower consumption.

I never had a real surgery other than getting a tooth yanked out here and there. Now that I can see how the smoke could burn your bloody socket, and have even blazed a few hours later myself, and remember trying not to suck too hard. Lunging hash hits without puffing worked good :)

When I broke L3 and L4, I only took maybe 2 pills the entire recovery period, and instead just ate brownies when it got bad. I even ripped the IVs out as they were trying to stick me on the way to the ER. Nothing helped more than potent batches of brownies for the following 6-7 months. They wanted to inject steroids into my spine, and was all they said they could do as far as pain management. I don't take pills so never tried to get them, even though i'm sure I could have.

There is a way to re compress bulged disks without surgery, and it involves bending backwards for hours a day, for weeks at a time. Like doing a pushup, but keeping your hips on the ground. It will eventually suck them back into place, as long as you start doing it early..

Same here - and my doctor stated this was entirely possible when I ran it past him.

Concur with the your assessment on CBD - may work for some, but I've always found better relief with opioids (not to mention CBD seems REALLY expensive if you're consuming daily, whereas a Rx for pain pills is under $10)

I have found some relief using THC tinctures in lieu of muscle relaxers or anti-spastic meds, but for back/hip pain Rx meds beat cannabis 100% of the time.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had surgery and been told not to smoke during recovery... pretty sure they aren't only referring to tobacco.

Spent two months in a wheelchair after getting my feet put back together and didn't take anything stronger than an over the counter ibuprofen. I was baked daily though. I still have pain every now and then and personally feel like weed is a lifesaver. Not all weed, but some.
