For some very very potent butter a good regimen is:
2 cups butter per oz. of weed.

I dont care what anyone else says, look up Chef Herb, i met him at KushCon last year and spoke to him personally. He gave me this fucking shit. TRY IT<

Ingredients
2 oz. mj
4 cups butter
water

Take your 2 oz. and put it in a pot, and enough water to just barely cover the weed. Bring this mix to a very light simmer. Once the mix is brought to a light simmer, allow it to do so for an hour. Take your water/weed mix off the stove, and bring it to room temp. After that bring it back to a simmer. Repeat this process at least three times. After the 3rd or 4th time you will have extracted about 95% of the thc.

Once you have repeated the simmer/room temp process 3-4 times, allow your mix to set in the refrigerator over night. In the morning, bring the mix back to a simmer, and add 4 cups of butter. Allow this mix to simmer for an hour, then bring to room temp. You will simmer/ cool to room temp. 3 times. After the 3rd time strain the plant matter from your mix using a cheese cloth or an old white t-shirt. Allow this strained water/butter mix to sit in the fridge over night.

In the morning your butter will have seperated from the water, just scrape it into a separate container, and youll have your butter.

Now you can add more butter to the process if you like, but for the dick in the dirt shit, use two cups per oz.

oh shit, during your water and weed simmer process, some water will evaporate. Simply make sure to add enough water to keep the weed always covered.

guys...if your concerned about the smell.. and I know it drives my wife and kids crazy... there is a smell.. HOWEVER you can avoid the smell by adding the weed and butter into a mason jar.. use the good ones the ones rated for use in canning.. sorry they make some cheap ass glass and some of it will not tolerate heat.. anyhow add the weed and butter into the jar.. place jar in a pot with water and cook like a double boiler...it takes a while longer and it has no smell since it's sealed and DONT open in the house either... the water they use is for purifying the butter to make it less green.. you can add water to the mason jar.. your going to make a smaller batch then you would without the jar but I dont think most of us make more then 2-4 lbs of butter at a time.

No offense droop, but that's a lot more trouble than nescessary.
First off, I can't see how boiling the weed with water alone will do mouch. Water does not extract THC. THC can be extracted using solvents like alcohol, or fat - ie. butter.
Here's my method, just so you have a few different opinions to explore:

In a slow cooker, place your 2 oz weed, 2 lbs(4 cups) butter, and top it off with enough water to cover it all.
Turn the slow cooker on low and walk away. Come back to stir every hour or two. After simmering for 5 hours, start stirring very 20 mins. Six hours total should be ample time to extract the THC and make you some kick ass cannabutter.
Next, strain through cheesecloth or nylon stockings (I use the stockings. You can find the "sock" types at the dollar store 3 for a buck sometimes) into a large bowl. Place in the fridge over night, and the next day you can take the hardened butter off the top.

I like to re-melt my cannabutter into a double boiler and add enough regular butter to make it into an even 4 cups (you loose a little when you make the butter) then pour half cup portions into small glass bowls. Then back in the fridge to harden and you have half cup portions ready to go at a moments notice!

One of the nice things about this method is that it's easy to plug your slow cooker into an outside plug so you don't have to smell up your house.

Whatever method you decide to go with, good luck and happy cooking!

None taken stark, but you will never have a 90-100% thc extraction without the time. It's just the time needed for the extraction to take place. Ive used a 6hr simmer before, i was very humbled by this recipe. Try it if you want. Im positive, you will never spend 6hrs making your butter again.

Well, there's always room to learn something new. I'm still not sure how boiling the weed in plain water will extract any THC, but then I ain't no chemist. Next time I make some butter, I'll give your method a shot!

dont boil it, just simmer. ive got to go, will give you thourough info later.

O.k. I use to make this way back in pre-historic times. It's been so long I just wanted to brush up a bit. You come the closest to what I remember, with only one difference. The old style way I was taught at 17,(I'm now 51), was to slow cook the the MJ either on the stove or in a crock pot on low, just barely cover with water and simmer for at least 6-8 hours after that, I definitly remember straining it while still very hot and putting the butter in at this point to melt, then in the fridge to firm and then you had a finished product with lots of potency and no grit etc. We are about to do our first batch since we are so restricted on how much "useable" we may have in the house. my s/o is of like mind with stark raving, basically telling me that it has to have been simmered with the butter in it for the six to eight hours or we need to use solvent (which I'm against.), but obviously you are getting most of the THC out with the water and then adding the butter to congel the oils. How long does it take you to make get yours threw the first steps of simmer/cool? Do you think I'm losing potentancy by straining it and pouring all the water off before adding the butter. I need this as simply as possible since both of us are very disabled and I don't need a fight right in the middle of making it.
