Closed column yield

I notice my quality is really good, but my yield is very low. I’m filling the material tube, then pulling a vacuum, then filling my dewaxing column with dry ice/isopropyl, let that sit for 45 mins or so, then put frozen solvent in until I can’t get anymore out of the cans, let that sit for an hour or so. Then I run it.

Am I missing something? Should I push more solvent through until I see a change in color with the column open after the initial soak? Or should I keep topping off the dewaxing column and immediately pull vacuum on the column with the same material and run more solvent and run it again that way?

Are you using a closed column by itself or a closed loop system with recovery?

I get about 18 to 25% yield with a closed loop, depending on strain, and flow about 3 column volumes to do so.

When I was experimenting with closed column alone, I increased the volume by vibrating it while it soaked.BHO Pressurized and vibrated 2.jpg

Just a closed column with a dewaxing sleeve.
Besides mechanical agitation by vibrating, you can also run it multiple times.

Extraction works better with flow. When solvent and solute meet, there is a boundary layer formed between them that is a mixture of solute and solvent. That lowers both the solvent and solute concentration, slowing or stopping the process. You must keep removing that boundary layer to keep the dissolution moving. Just soaking doesn't do that.

Is that 1" pipe and half inch reducers and valves? And how long?

Nice, simple design ..I like it, do you just stand it up on end to blast through a single small hole for butane.. and have a few small holes on the other end cap?

What is the purpose of the 90s?
You run it just like it sits. You open the valves and inject in the 1/8" hole on the left side, until it flows out the right side when the column is full, and then close the valves and turn on the vibrator.

The 90's allow it to operate horizontally, and insure a full column.

Is the horizontal pipe a trap or the material column? If it's the material column I don't really understand how it works.

It is the material column. It works by filling that horizontal tube with material and LPG and vibrating it. The design insures no trapped air or vapor.

It works the same as a bottom flood, which accomplishes the same thing, but horizontal is easier to operate.
