cxb3590 drive current opinions

Hey DIY builders,

I wanted everyones opinion on drive current for a 4x4 space. I was thinking 10 cxb3590s driven at 1400ma for starters with possibly swapping the drivers down the road to something like 700ma to increase the amount of cobs in that space. Obviously we all know how expensive running 20 cxb3590s versus 10 will cost up front, my issue is that while having a system that runs super efficient is gonna cost $$$$. How well do you all think 10@1400 ma will perform? The one thing I like about DIY is that you can modify the setup down the road.:cool:

I run 8 I a 4x4 @ 1750 mA. Works beautifully.

In getting rndy to run 12 in at 4x3 at 1050ma. I'll be over 1000 ppfd with this setup, and it should also work well for a 4x4. It also pulls about 80 watts less than 10 3590's running at 1400ma.
Yeah I hear ya, maybe I should think about something different than the cutter mau5 X kit. I wonder why they dont offer the most effienct setups available.

Nice so are you happy with the coverage? Do you notice a difference with the increase of photon output?
Well you obviously see much more intense, higher lumen light the higher your current. Honestly, I wish I had a 3rd bar of 4 in the center but I'm going to instead just use 8 pin sinks with reds and blues on them on the outside edges of my setup instead. I've liked what I've seen with mixing r/b with white cobs.

That's a good question. Fortunately it's not to hard, and a lot cheaper, to source everything yourself.

I was going to do 8 or 12 at 1400ma originally, but the more research I did, and the more questions I asked, I found that I can get the same light coverage and use a lot less electricity. There's a little more cost up front, but I feel it's worth it.

I hear that, i will probably do a kit first and add cobs later on.

How would I calculate the PPFD on a setup? If I dim the lights that will cut the current down thus increasing effiency right?

Well then heck I will just start there, I guess I can use a killawatt meter to figure the approximate output. When it all comes down to it how much do you save by having a super efficent setup anyway? I understand the whole running cooler than HPS along with the photon output, but drive currents and additional equipment a lot to spend for more GPW

The recommended minimum and maximum flowering and full cycle footprints are at 500 and 1200 PPFD.
The recommended minimum and maximum vegetative footprints are at 300 and 700 PPFD.
