If you are going to make that size they make a 3' by 6' flood table for about $160.00. A stand for that, res etc. is much easier than building the whole thing. I only did this because the size I needed to fit my space wasn't availablle. I bought a 3' by3' table for the mothers I have and I like it better than what I built, there isn't anyway you can duplicate the draining on the pre-made tables for less than you can buy them. This would also give you some flexibility with the width on a stand, it could be a few inches inside of the dimensions of the table and still work. The thing you need to make sure of for this large of a table is the size of the reservoir. You would need about twice the size of mine which would make it above 50 gallons and those are expensive. The less expensive ones will not take the water pressure they will begin to leak around spots where the res meets the floor. If I were going to make a table that size I would consider building the res and a stand for a pre-made table. VV

All I need to make a 3X6 foot table is:

1 4x8 sheet of 1/2 inch plywood. ($8.00)
4 2x4x8's ($2.17 each, so ~$9)
and 1/2 of a 12x7 sheet of pondliner. ($8.17 per 12x1 so X7 = $57.19/2 = $28.60)
1 Sink drain fitting plastic ($6)

$8+$9+$29+6 = $52.00

I dont need them as complex as your, you used really good wood, thick wood, ect.

Just wanted to show it can be done on the cheap.

Oh and add extra for 4 wheels and casters. :)

Well that is interesting. Im would assume you are going to need a pump and a resevoir, I suppose you could hand water them, and a set of flood and drain fittings, about $10.00 for the pair. Of course if your liner is only 12' long cut in 1/2 it won't be big enough to go up the sides of the table to seal it, I guess you could just get a big enough res to catch the water that leaks all around the outside of the table and if you stop by my house I can give you the liner for the bottom of the table so you will have adequate drainage.
you would probably be better served by buying 12' long boards for the sides and the end since you can make two sides and four ends out of 2 with out throwing away a foot for every cut you make
I built two of the tables out of a waterbed frame my next door neighbor was throwing away. The figures I posted are for what it cost me for buying all off the items for a table and as meant to be a guide. But thanx for trying to school me about how cheap you can almost build a table. VV:blsmoke:

True My table will actually be Like 5 feet by 3 each so I have 6 inches to for the wall on the liner.

Although they also sell this liner meant for under showers, but it only comes in 5 foot wide ($6 per foot) or 4 foot wide ($5 per foot).

Also I planned to used the extra 2 feet of all the two by fours for the LEGS!!!

My table are for handwatered plants, I just need something for the plants to sit in, that has a drain.

I dont even really need any kind of matting for drainage.

Should be all gravy....

Just gonna stick a tub under neath with 4 hoses from the drains running to it.

Although maybe a pump to a drain in the basement would work as well....

Again thanks for the ideas... Building them today.

No it is for others to see when they click this thread!!

What is wrong with adding to the Thread alternate versions of a DIY table??

YouTube - Harold & Kumar ( Is This Your Special Bush )

This thread inspired me to make my own, and at a much cheaper cost, so I thought I would share it, why are you getting all huffy about it??

Do I really have to start a new thread just to share the info...

Give a girl a break....

hey mate started building my own flood and drain table used cheap thin wood with like blocks for the corners feels pretty steard tho all thats left to get done is pump and pond lining. is there anything else you have thought of using instead of mats looked on ebay today for mats and it will cost me more for the mats than the whole tabel.
I had the same problem on my two 3x8 DIY flood and drain tables. I put 12x12 ceramic tiles in the bottom and left a quarter inch between them to channel water. After drain is complete, tiles are dry and roots don't sit in water that may cause root rot.I had to cut some of the tile with a tile cutter I already had but it cost about 16.00 new and the tiles cost 49 cents apiece.

Grrrrrrrrrrr....................looking to turn my 3x4 veg tent into two sections, with an E&F table in each section, fed by the same reservoir - was thinking building my own would be much cheaper, I guess I was wrong :wall:

Oh well, back to the drawing board...........

The Home depot has trays that will work for pretty cheap. Use a rubbermaid for a reservoir. When I get home I'll take pics of what I'm talking about. I used to use them and all of my friends still use them. I just bought new stuff when I moved because I wanted the customer sizes. These trays they have here look really pimp, but I need the ability to tear my shit down quickly. A few cinder blocks, a tray, a reservoir and I'm out this bitch. It was never there in about 15 minutes total.

If I had a better location and/or I was a lot more inclined to do work I would fully build one of these tables though. It's pretty damn sweet and having it all on caster is pretty nice.

Something along these lines, but there's a sturdier one at the home depot. It's the same kinda mixing tub though....http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=19252-1569-ST3608&lpage=none

Yeah, I'm not handy for shit (although I'm getting much, much better since I've re-taken up growing), but I just wanted to fully maximize the 3x4 footprint that the "2x4" Sun Hut provides - giving it some more thought, I'm just gonna have 2 separate 2x4 Botanicares in there - just realized that with both trays built to 3x4, air flow in there would be seriously impeded between levels.

Trays will be ~$70 all-in (including plumbing), and I've already got the pumps.

Already built a stand for my 4x4 tray outta 2x4s, so that's easy and cheap.

Yup, that's what I'm gonna do.

On of my buddies has a 3x4 botanicare. I'm fairly sure it's a botanicare, but I can call him up and find out who makes his tray. It was a legit tray though.

Alright, so i'm working to find my cord to hook my digital camera to my computer then I'll post some pictures, but I wanted to let you know that you're post was my muse. I built your table in a 3'x4' size, however it has no middle legs or casters. On the four corners I took one of the two 2x4's and made it 7 1/2' tall. Wrapped the whole thing in panda film. The top section holds the light, exhaust and circulation fans. On the bottom it is split into two sections, one is for my mom and cloning, and the other half has my 50 gal reservoir. So i turned your table design into a grow chamber, thanks for your post. Followed everything else you did to a "t".

Wow, this brings back some old memories. For any other DIY's out there, I bought a Kreg Jig, about $100.00 for the kit. Much easier. VV
