DLI for autos.

I am wondering what you guys know about DLI for autos.
I’ve grown autos in 24/0, 20/0, 18/6, and now I’ve got two in a 12/12 set up

Various strains with various results.

A few Years ago when I tried autos I found lots of people say 18/6 or more light. Is needed for autos or you will greatly reduce yield.

Now in regards to DLI. If you run 12/12 with a high PPFD. You can easily match and exceed the DLI of a 18/6 or 24/0 veg tent.

I guess what I’m saying is will you have the same result with 12/12 @ 1000ppfd as you would at 24/0 @ 500ppfd?

Will a auto finish faster in 12/12 compared to 18/6 + with the same DLI?

I guess running seeds from the same plant would be the only way to really test, as cloning is out of the question.

These are 2x Magnum autos from Budda seeds

I've been kind of wondering about it myself. I mostly grow 24/0 for heat considerations but a few times a year I can get away with 18/6 and I don't really notice a difference. I know there is a couple guys on RIU that swear by 12/12 for auto's and I wonder if it's because they are able to max out it's DLI or maybe they are just on crack. It's a interesting question. I think you would have to do a sizeable test of the same seeds and conditions each in their own tent and measure results. It's probably not a fair comparison but my outdoor auto's are a lot smaller and most of the outdoor grows I've seen produce smaller auto's. I would assume outdoor in full sun I should be close to maxing it's DLI ?

I'm pretty confident that there would be no difference in harvest times. Auto's have their own clock.

(edit) Just noticed you said those auto's are 12/12. They don't look small for a 12/12 soil grow. You noticing any difference from previous grows ? What lights are you running on them ? Are the lights a lot closer with this grow ?

I haven’t grown these seeds before. But these plants have strong smell and the buds are feeling tight.

It’s a mix of vero29s and citizen 1212
3000k and 3500k

Lights are set to about 1000ppfd with the dimmers and light meter. Granted last time I did autos I did not set my lights with a meter

This is also the fist time with autos and using a UV SolarCure light.
And to be honest. I feel like the photos that I’ve done under the uv have finished a bit faster. But that’s only 3 plants all a different strains.

Only had the uv for 6 months ish

Looking good for 12/12. I think the 18 hour plus lighting recommendations have to do with the ruderalis natural environment of the upper northern hemisphere. That or seemingly you use less energy running at lower watts? I'm on the band wagon of the 20 hour light cycle at the moment and am running at 280 par which equates to about 20 DLI (on the 20 hour schedule). I believe these Autos can max out to 40 DLI (in flower), just not sure if that involves C02 or not. Anyone here running at higher DLI while in Veg?

20 moles DLI is quite low, 40 moles DLI is fine w/out C02 supplementation

I never made a distinction between veg/flower when running autos as far as lighting goes after the seedling stage

Gold ...thanks .. !! I went from 50% lighting to 75% which will now give me anywhere from 32 DLI (at their current height) to 43 DLI. (projected/estimate height at flower)

Get your dli/ ppfd lined up according to lighting schedule and you'll grow healthy plants. After I veg 3 weeks, every plant flowers under 12/12 , 50wsq ft, dli at 35-45 according to stage. Very happy with my results. Environment is another primary parameter to keep in mind.
