Does the Northern Lights #5 from the 90’s still exist?

I’ve read mixed reviews about Sensis and whether it’s still the same and there’s so many breeders offering it but the history is always so convoluted and vague and I’m not sure if there’s a certain clone of #5 like a clone only strain or if everyone has their own IBL or what.
I guess there’s a lot of genetic diversity in the NL family with some more indica/sativa phenos but I’m wondering who might have genetics from either a really old clone or from some seeds from the 90s.
I’ve had some NL samples locally and one had a tinge of purple and a sweet, lemony berry eucalyptus flavor that was amazing.

Sensis aint the same now and like most nl sold today it is a combo of nl1xnl2xnl5 theres still decent nl2 x nl5 that a few breeders sell from old bc seed stock thats proly closest ul get these days to 90s nl

Having grown Dr Atomics NL crosses I can say they were pretty spot on to that pic. The bud and leaf traits are ingrained in my brain.

Joey Weeds NL is nice as well, not #5 but worth looking into with limited options.

That's how I feel....northern lights was always awesome in crosses....but on its own, I always feel its good solid weed - but nothing truly exotic by itself....maybe I just havent had the right one I don't know because theres so many ppl that swear by it

NL is apparently one of the original Afghani broadleaf indica crosses.

The NL ive sampled was very sweet without as much acrid or bitter herbal funk that a lot of strains these days have imo ive not seen too many other strains that have the same mild and sweet deep woods berry pine flavor and potent relaxing indica high.
The only other strains ive tried that had a similiar old school flavor was a Mazar cross or the weed we used to get back in 2002 or bubba kush which has NL #5 as a parent.
Although I’ve definitely sampled some other versions of NL that was more average weed and didn’t have any purple.

Pretty much would be one of the first big afghani hybrids cos nl 1 is nevils afghani x steve Murphy's afghani (Kandahar supposedly)
nl 2 was nevils thai x nl1 and nl 5 was meant to be Hawaiian thai x nl1 thats the script how i remember it anyway

Also the current sensi and most common nl available today the nl1 x nl2 x nl5 was made by breeder Steve

I grew a version of NL started from seed for a couple of years in the mid 90'. Unfortunately, I don't remember the source/breeder or the number - although I think it was just listed as "Northern Lights". The seeds came mail order from the Netherlands.

The 10 seeds I started with grew out more uniform than anything else I've popped since. Both the males and females were were squat, wide leaved, bushy plants with dense buds. Strongly indica dominant structure.

The version I grew did not look much like the #5 cutting the OP posted from growdiaries or the ones Michi-Can posted though. It did not purple up at all. The one TintEastwood posted is a bit closer. Aroma was kind of neutral, it smelled like weed but opening a bag didn't overpower the room.

Several people who'd never smoked my stuff before asked if it was northern lights after trying it. So, whatever version it was, it seemed to have been pretty a common one from back then.

For the time, it was great bud but it tended to be a very de-motivating couch lock stone. I would not want to grow it again just because there is so much else out there today.

It depends what northern lights you're looking for.

Looking for pinesol type smells from NL2, chem #4 or the "pure" OG cuts, s1/2/3, are basically the modern version. A touch of hashplant tossed into both, likely.

NL5 sweet-fruit-citrus type stuff is out there but not much of it has as nice of a buzz as NL would. So much of that terpene profile is filled with stuff geared towards hash because heavy smokers can't smoke enough of the flowers to get their desired effect.

There's good stuff coming out today but there's a reason why people are yearning for the old stuff.
