I have about 4 oz of bud I want to make hash out of,Do I cut up the buds before I throw them in with the dry Ice or do I just take them out of the frezer and throw them in with the dry ice????

I would do both, first freeze them, and do a run. Shake probably between 2 and 5 minutes. Now it should be mostly broken up buds, maybe not all though. I would take this 1st batch and put it aside, it will be the best quality. Now chop up the remainder, freeze again and repeat. Do short shake runs and seperate each run. The quality will go down as you get more and more plant material through your screen.

No i think it is a good size, but everyone has there own opinions. A lot of people use the 220 bag, some closer to 120. The time of shake is important for quality i think.....

You don't have to freeze anything with this method, nor cut it up(unless it obviously does not fit)...the ice turns it into powder. The size of the microns depends on what material you are using...still have not perfected that yet.

Also, the whole process is much easier with 1 gals as opposed to 5.

As stated before you won't need to freeze the bud first as the dry ice will take care of it quickly! I use a 75mic. for the first shake of about 3 min. and a 160mic bag for the second run also of about 3 minutes. A dried bud/leaf/trim will produce an end product of a little more tan in coloration and have a slightly different taste as some of the chlorophyll has left the tissue. But, I have taken completely wet, just freshly cut trim, and run it with dry ice and come up with good kief as well. The second run makes wonderful kief for cooking with. Take care and good growing.

^^ as he stated, no need to freeze with dry ice hash. That is the beauty of it. 180 micron bag should be about perfect. I used a 160 and it was great.

I agree with most of this other than the 5 g vs 1 g

For me it is far simpler to handle and run through a 5g onto a larger surface than a small one. I can do more faster with less ice like that than when I did it with a smaller bucket.

I have even started just using the bag alone. I use bucket first to mix and then dump in bag and go.

I use a 220u bag by the way. I tried all the others and the quality is better with say 73 ish but quantity very small. I went up from there and found that the difference is not the hole size at 160-220 but rather the timing. Use a large surface and slowly move the process down the surface as you see color change occurring. 220 let me get the good stuff and the less all at once and I was the one changing the grade on it as I went. Some stuff I made last week I took down to a local bar. After they closed the staff and I toot some up in a oney. About two hits for all of them and they would not take anymore. I found out later that all the waitresses messed up their money counts and the till was counted wrong and the bartender apparently passed out in her car out back and the cops had to wake her up and send her home. I was stoked lets just say that. I have a pretty high tolerance to stuff these days but they are all normal smokers. Even I can't take more than about 3-4 oneys. The first run I did I messed up but by the fifth time I was getting both pure blond and dark brown then greenish for cooking out of one bag in about 10 minutes. Last time I ran 3oz. or inner trim I got around 20g of goods 10 of mid and 7-8 darker for cooking in 10 minutes. I will never use another method again unless I can sleep while I do it :)

I dry and then use a 160 micron bag. Depends on the catch area you use if you go with 1gallon or 5 gallon. I use a huge salid bowl and the 5 gallon. Toss in 5oz at a time then set aside. Pull the big ice chunks and do five more. Then take all 10 and do 1 more shake. Then feel no more trics are there. Place bowl in room and use the co2. Next day boil it in 3 cups water and add add budder simmer over night and exstract the cbd's then everything is useless so off to compost to feed next years garden. That's just my method
