Feed back on my grow(and scrounging)

Hey guys, just hoping some could take a look at my current grow and give me some feedback. I am also scrogging on this grow and I’m beginning to tie the tallest branches to the net to promote upward growth. Is this a good idea? I’ve read that beginners shouldn’t scrog and this is my first grow. But I’m not an idiot and have enough background knowledge to know what I am doing to some extent.

The strings aren't going to promote upward growth. They will grow into the net on their own. This will not speed up the process. Looks good tho.

Your netting is a support trellis ... sorry.

No. Your canopy looks pretty even already. There is no need to tie the longer branches to the netting.

You are starting to get a little crowded in there so I gather that it's getting close to flower time? Since this is your first grow, get some bud from them and we can help you SCROG your next grow.

For now, look for any large fan leaves that might be blocking a bud site below and remove that fan to give those slightly lower tops a chance. Then flip to flower and let them do their thing. You can do some further clean-up in a few weeks.

What lights are you using?

The goal of a scrog is to weave and tie your plant through it, forcing the plant hormones to redirect to different bud sites instead

I only see the one trellis net and it looks like your tying your plants up to it. Sorta backwards imo. Plants grow up and you want then tied down.

If you added more string to your netting and make the open spaces smaller, I think it could work better.

You can scrap the tinfoil, it can create hot spots and do leaf/bud damage. The white is good enough for your grow at the moment. Mylar, panda film or black/white poly would be better but in your instance the white paint is fine.

Your plant looks bushy and overall healthy so I'm guessing you did lots of reading and used what you knew. I think you've done quite well so far.

Keep in mind the plants will stretch when they flower. Doubling or trippling in size so you might want to consider some defoliation later on.

Maybe it won’t promote additional upward growth but maybe it would be beneficial to tie the branches the way I did to have them evenly spread out and grow the way I have them tied off so the lower leaves/ branches can receive more light and have more room to grow; with the addition of some defoliation of the larger leaves. Here are a couple more pics from today

It's your grow and you can grow it any way you like.

The point of a trellis is to spread the plants out and let them grow into it. 2 or 3 layers of trellis is ideal.

This was my first time using trellis. I wish i had installed it much sooner so i could have had a second layer, but see how the plants are growing into it? Thats what you want.

Also you should be using trellis with tighter squares so you have more options for how to train each branch. The 3.5'' mesh.

You don't need to reinvent the wheel, the wheel is just fine as it is. It's up to you if you want to put wheels on your car.

Your current use of a trellis and tying the plants up to it is not using the wheel.

You came here for verification of your concept but indicate you want your concept to work.

I don't think it will without modification but you do you and grow your ganja any way you like.

Add more strings or don't, that part is up to you. Tying branches up to the trellis to spread them out seems pointless to me because of plant growth going up but who knows. I tie my branches down to force spreading but the main road Isn't for everyone.

Normally I would agree and just walk away but I've seen too many other folks do that over the years and when someone comes here for advice, we should at least try to educate the best we can.

It's his first grow, mistakes will be made. He came to experts with a concept and admittedly I've never seen someone tie weed up before or use a support trellis as a scrog.

If he listens he will have better results and on the other hand if he wants to try a new concept, let's see where it goes and use this post as a learning tool for others.

Yeah i think weve done all we can do at this point though.... Google images Trellis or Scrog and none of them look like what he did..... theres a reason for that.

I completely understand what y’all are saying, never did I say that I did not. Before making a post regarding what I did in this post, I had only knowledge about a net strung horizontally above the plants to help spread them as they go through and help have an even “screen of green” so they all get even lighting. I want to flip my plants when they’ve started growing through and I can truly tie them down and spread them out like I plan on doing and line you guys are saying. My plants have yet to reach the height to tie them down; the entire point of the post was regarding me tying them up to the net to help spread for light for the lower branches. Other than that, I was planning on allowing them to grow through the net and tying them down, as the concept intends. I don’t think it has anything to do with me not getting it lol. I think it has everything to do with you assuming you knew what my aim of this post was and also assuming I did not understand..

Well in that case, i think you wasted your time tying them to the trellis, they would have grown up there eventually no mater what, and at that point you just spread them into the trellis as you see fit. But as i said before, you should be using a 3.5'' mesh trellis so you can get a more even spread. You only have 9 squares to work with there....

As a 20 yr old in college, I am working with what I’ve got. Everything you have said, and continue to say have already been taken into consideration. Also, note that if anything, the main reason of me tying them was to help spread them out for bushier growth and lower parts to receive light; which I believe is partly the reason you scrog in the first place.

It is. This is my current scrog.

I feel your cash restraints. Money is always tight in college.

Hit up the dollar store and buy a roll of twine. It's cheap and will help out in the long run.

A SCROG starting to take shape:

Spreading this plant (and her neighbor to the left) to 2 square feet of bud potential before we flower.

Sorry folks ... so far, all I have seen are support trellis.

Just for some verification, here are some pics which I believe are pistils on my bag seed plant. I know one pic is for sure a pistil but would like to make sure that the other is a pistil as well. I haven’t experienced an androgynous plant yet so I’m not familiar. Also a pic of my clones I cut!
