Soil, feed only when they look hungry. Yeah, you can do shit like, feed, water, water, but I don't do that , I feed them, then I just keep giving them water and a bit epsom salt until they show me that they need to be fed again. Like during my last grow, during flower, I only had to feed two of my plants just 5 times during flower, and the other two I had to feed 6 times. Anyhow... for coco, I feed every time I water, but only at 1/4 strength! And yeah, my plants once they are flowering, fully mature, they could probably handle 1/2 or even a full strength feedings, but do they really need that much, hell no!

Hey lol sorry I meant what medium are they planted in ;)
5gal buckets maybe a bit small by the end of summer maybe watering daily or 2x a day especially if the buckets are off the ground and the roots aren't getting into the ground as well
Feeding 20-20-20. Of what? Cheap nutes can cause issues in the medium
Outdoors I prefer to use things like Gaia green power bloom, bat guano, ewc, insect frass, rockdust, etc. That way it gets fed what it needs everytime and all I need to do is water (they get fish emulsion once a week with molasses to feed the benies). And if it rains it's fine it's getting fed still instead of having to wait until the dirt dries wasting valuable feeding time

I would worry about getting rootbound if I had to keep those in 5 gal until end of flower.
If you could just cut the bottoms off & set them on some or use storage totes with soil in them, let the roots grow into that as well.

I'm new at growing, but that's what I would wonder about.

5 gal pots are plenty big enough bud. I've been a grower for ten years, also smart pots don't get root walls like plastic pots do, and if you wanna place them on more soil like a raised bed the roots will grow right threw the bottom of the smart pot, the roots feel the air when they get to the edge and the plant stops trying to grow roots past the pot wall. Are you still in plastic? You should switch partner.

I'm just trying to get a new idea for fixing this without flushing. I'm thinking about adding a buffer like lime but my water is already alkaline. Prolly just gonna spend my day flushing :(
