First Double Harvest Attempt

I done so many new things this grow. Some highly regarded techniques suck as topping and some frowned upon things like fairly late supercropping and then a second round even later! The girls responded nicely all the way through.

One thing I didn’t do however was heavy defoliating on the bottoms of these two girls. When it came time to harvest, the buds down there were as expected. They were pale, fluffy, with all white hairs and very immature trichomes. I decided I would try my hand at fattening those little buds up with a second harvest.

I have never attempted this before (3rd grow ever) and I haven’t really looked into it too much beyond the first few positive posts on the subject within this forum.

So here I go. I’ve harvested and left the bottoms to do their thing with their new abundance of light. I’m still on 12/12 light and I don’t know if I’m supposed to re-veg back to 18/6 or just let them be as is for 2-3 more weeks.

Any pointers would be fantastic. Here are a few pictures. The first one was taken over a week before harvest but it’s the most recent I had. The second is my harvest drying and the third is what’s left of my two plants.

Looks like it should work out nicely for you, plenty of material left on the plant.

We stagger harvest all the time. We take the top colas, and let the secondaries cook for another week and a half or so. You shouldn't have to adjust your lights or feed schedule. They'll fatten and dense up. But looking at your pics, they do look quite larfy.. We have had secondaries that were fantastic, and then again, we've had some that just never densed up. Worth a shot tho. You can still make RSO, butter, etc with the larfy ones.

Yeah I’ll be sifting my trimmings for kief and using that plus any not so choice popcorn buds to infuse something. I’ve made a bunch of gummy bears with homemade infused coconut oil in the past that turned out nice.

So after all the harvesting and drying from both rounds of flowering I got 9.5 ounces. 8 from the big plant and 1.5 from the small one. I managed to sift out 14g of kief from the trimmings. For some reason it really doesn’t taste so good. Kinda like an earthy stale closet taste. I dried it slowish over 7-10 days at 55-60% humidity until the small stems started to break like I’ve read everywhere to do and I’ve had it trimmed up in big jars at around 60-65% RH burping regularly. Maybe I didn’t flush enough? I’ve read mixed opinions on wether or not flushing is necessary at all. Still dried too fast maybe? It’s been curing for about 3 weeks now and still tastes like garbage.

You have RH meters in the jars and that is what they say? 60-65% rh?

Or you have bovida packs in there controlling RH?

I have both. Meters and bovida packs
Take the bovida out and see what the RH is. The "wait till the stem snaps" thing is Bro science and leads to a lot of ober dried weed. That same thought messed me up on my first harvests. If you wait till the stems snap it is usually over dried and the cure stops.

The RH should be 65 without the bovida.

So take the bovida out. Exchange the air out of the jar. Seal it without the bovida. Let it sit for 2 hours. Read the RH.

I bet it is under 40.

The taste could be strain related. Recently harvested 2 OG kush that taste DANK as in the true definition of dank, musty and earthy.

None of the other strains in that same grow have this taste, it is just the OG and the terps they produced.
