First Dry Sift: Any tips/tricks before starting?

Good day everyone!

Today I’ve decided to go through all my trim/shake/popcorn buds and dry sift it.
I haven’t gone through the process before, so I thought I’d ask if I’m missing any information.

What I’m planning:
- I’ll be using a 110 mesh screen (which is Approx. 135 micron)
- All product is in the freezer ready to go
- Will do a light pass first and collect before going ham and agitating everything.
- storing in glass jars to later be pressed into RHO.

The leftovers I’ll re-freeze for a later Bubble hash run, to get the most out of it.

Am I missing anything? Or are there any tips/tricks more experienced people can throw my way? Thanks for taking the time to read!
Cheers

For best efficiency, the material should be ground first. If you are subsequently pressing the Kif into Rosin, you can tolerate more green plant particles than if you are after full melt. You can also reduce the debris somewhat by re-sieving at 50 microns to lose everything smaller.

Here is a link with useful information:

Techniques vary from raking the material back and forth across the silk screen, to tapping screen with material against hand, to tapping screen with material on it. Experiment and use what works best for you.

Serious question: Won't grinding the material potentially damage the heads? Can this be done to improve yield on bubble runs if going straight from the freezer? I cut up my last couple of bags of bud to get more surface area exposed in the wash, and I think it went well. From 1oz of bud cut up with scissors, and about 2oz of sugar leaves/trim I got 6.6g back using 120, 90, 45 & 25 micron bags. I say it went well, because it's more than I got last run using 2.5oz of bud.

If you are going to press the Kif into Rosin, there is less concern for the integrity and beauty of the heads. Breaking them off during grinding works fine because you are sifting it afterwards.

If you are looking for museum quality heads to marvel at, I suggest breaking up lightly by hand for raking and then electrostatically sort. Yield will be significantly lower with just heads and no trichome stems or plant debris, but it will be gorgeous to behold.

Bubble extraction has more of the surface area exposed to collision with ice, so how much you reduce the material depends on what it is. If we are talking about your typical scissor trim, the particles are already small enough that there may be little gained.

Easy enough to run one sample and see!
