Going to cross two strains, one I love, one is a landrace, at least they say it is, afghan plant. When I cross the male and the female, I take the seeds from that round , and cross them again correct? How many generations does it typically take for the strain to become stable. Also, when would you want to cross it back to a parent of the original cross? Growing weed for a while, but I took a couple years break and now I’m trying everything I’m not comfortable with lately.

There is a lot of info here on those questions with a quick search. Briefly tho..
Cross your plants
Cross two F1s
Pick an F2 cross it with another F2
Breed that back to your picked F2 mom
Take the resulting F3s and pick one to cross back to the F2 mom
Continue another generation for a more stable F5
May be wrong just started dabbling myself in breeding but there are tons of already written good resources here.

im just a chucker but once you select a female you like if you have enough seeds look for a male version of the female and pair them, continue to f4 and back cross a selected male to the original female, but take what i say with a grain of salt im learning too
