Germinating seeds

What's the best technique?

I only ask because I have had 100% germination during my lifespan....until now!

I use the cup of water method, drop the seed into a cup of water and 24 hours later, seed should have at least a root coming out of it.

I just got seeds from 2nd generation seeds and have attempted to crack 2 blueberryland seeds....the first one I kind of made a mistake so I started a 2nd one....24 hours later, seed goes to the bottom of the cup, but no visible root....so I take it out and start the damp paper towel method....still nothing happening.

Any suggestions? Or am I suddenly 0 for 2 seeds from JD?

Thanks, ive never had them take over 24 hours, so I was like wtf am I doing wrong lol the last 2 seeds in germinated were G13 Haze from Mr Nice and C99 from Female Seeds, both germed and sprouted within 24 hours....im just glad to hear i may need to wait longer and dont necessarily have duds lol

Next time leave them in the water until you see a root! Do not push them to the bottom as they can drown. I've had one in water for almost 3 days before it cracked although 95% crack within 36 hours. And like others have said, some beans are tough to crack. Scuff em with fine sandpaper around the seams then into the water.

Yeah either ways fine i just use paper towels rather than a glass of water first too ive done both i didnt find much difference but as @bobthe420 says for some stubborn seeds scarification can help too.
The only seeds id say are more finicky by nature are ruderal strains those can be a pain to pop without more specialised treatment like time in and out the freezer etc

Here is a basic guide that I link a lot because it has straightforward, no BS techniques.https://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide Direct to media, no humidity dome, maintain temp at 78-80, mild light source 24/7, etc, no pre-germ either. A 12 hour soak in 30 ml 3% h2o2 to 500 ml water is about the only "extra" thing that helps, and it works by chemical scarification-much gentler and more successful than physical scarification, AND it cleans off the nasty finger germs your seeds have picked up over their journey.

Interesting. I actually thought about that when handling the seeds so I've always washed my hands before touching them. Thanks for the tid bit.
