sip has been assembled and filled. 40 gallon bin, 4 inch drain pipe and vermiculite floor. ended up with 7 gallons in the res, 3 cf of bas 3.0, 7.5 cups of cowoco, 7.5 cups of bus, 3 cups of craft blend and then did nice top layer of bus then kashi followed with some cowoco. Theoretically if i did this right, i should have some mycellium on the top by next week right?

i think i am going to have to recalibrate my digital ph pen. i cant tell what my expanded em1 is at and its been 2 weeks. doesnt stink like the last one but the ph stirp is not as bright as the original
Ph of finished em1 is around 3.5

I know it was asked early on and OP said you had to have a teenage plant before going into the probiotic sip. However, the combination of almost being time to pop a seed and looking at the mat today and seeing a few sprouts it made me wonder...has anyone tried going straight from seed with this method? Is there a reason you couldn't drop a seed in one of these probiotic sips? Of course, you would have to make a hole in the cover for the light to get through but is that it? I believe it was page 2 there was photos of solo cups in a planter so would the em1 be the issue, the kashi, or general environment?

the appeal to this method is not having to know how to properly water and the simplicity of it. It would be awesome to go seed to harvest in the same container

did anyone ever figure out what putting air stones into the reservoir does to the em-1? I know Green/everyone initially said it would kill the em-1 but later he tried it and said the results were amazing and that he had been told that the oxygen didn’t kill the em-1 but changed it somehow. Sorry if this was addressed, I skimmed through the thread but didn’t see anything more than Green saying he was going to reach out to one of the main companies that manufacture it.

Good question. No sure if there was ever a conclusion on that.

When adding the layer of compost and kashi, are there any issues with it touching the bottom of the stalk?

I decided to give the page 2 sip a try for a seedling but was also using a new light and was afraid of overpowering it and she stretched a little. I was just going to burry her down a bit when I upotted into the sip but wasn't sure if I should avoid contacting the base with the compost and kashi.

I have more soil but down want to open another bag for such a small amount

I emailed Teraganix today and was told they haven’t any information on how the airstones would change the em1, because they have not experimented with it. “Adding an airstone with a small amount of bubbles would work, and probably eliminate the need for the lime in the system.” Guess it’s up to us to do a side by side and document.

Interesting, thank you for the insight. I should be uplanting my girl around the end of this week:cool:

As I remember, Green started a side by side and quickly turned the air stone on in the second SIP but I don’t think he was working with the same plants and had plans to try it with clones of the same strain. I guess I’m sort of curious if he was killing off the em-1 and just the added oxygen was beneficial or if it was the oxygen combined with the em-1 that was driving the exponential growth.

I will have 3 nodes tomorrow and already have roots coming out the bottom of a half gallon. Is she ready to show me what greens method can do or do I need to wait another week? Feminized beans so I am not worried about seeing sex test.jpg

I went cyber stalker status, found hyroot on the gram and sent a message thinking no way would he answer some random newb on the gram and not only did he answer but put thought and effort in to the reply. Huge thank you to both you @CrunchBerries and Hyroot. She might get to check out her new digs tomorrow. Will prob give a read through the first few pages on this thread and some of the other greenthumb threads scattered across the internet just because I am a squirrel and want to make sure I don't miss something or goof something. I did add a few specs of rootwise to the water the other day and today just because I didn't think it would hurt anything. just to share the info graciously passed on from Hyroot, his stance was as soon as the roots fill out the pot i could transplant and go right into the 30gal.

Sorry for the late response. Ask any questions and I’ll do my best to assist. Definitely read through the first couple pages on this thread again. Remember new sip, new soil you will flip when they get about a foot tall and are growing after replant.

No apologies needed, your insight has been instrumental in giving me the confidence to try this method!

Baby got new shoes tonight. covered the hole with rootwise and dropper her in. I threw a pretty thick layer of bus, decent layer of ewc, then through some craft blend, and finally of course the kashi blend. Gave the bin a few sprays of mist just to moisten the ewc. Covered her up then did a light foliar of cytoplus. Going to order big 6 tonight for next week. Hopefully, I didn't screw anything up and I have a decent size girl to look at during thanksgiving. Thank you again for getting me this far, pretty sure I am going to have to decide how I want to train this one. I am tempted to try a scrog but not sure I want to add another first to this round might go for another mainline because i like the simplicity of it. Ill throw up a pic in a few days once I know I didn't screw it up tonight some how lol

topped and tied down my new mains tonight. Have the same fungas gnat bloom without top watering like you did @CrunchBerries. I had skeeter bits on hand so i sprinkled a few on top. hopefully it doesn't have any negative impact this way. I did also recover my lid with sticky mats. Was considering ordering some nematodes but dang they are some pricey little creatures

You can also use mosquito bits/dunks in your reservoir. Just grind them up fine and use only water, no em1. Read something about the em1 counteracting the dunks or vs versa. If you don’t already, get some yellow sticky traps for the fliers. I also have a small fan on my floor between the boxes that chops them to shit when I do get a bloom. Keep us updated! It’s been awfully quiet round here lately. I’ve got some things in the works finally after a battle with spider mites and will update shortly.
